Then I removed the chip-reader components (two black plastic parts on the "key end" of assembly). Using the old key still trapped in the cylinder, I pulled the old cylinder out of the assembly. I inserted a new key into the new cylinder and slid it into the assembly. To my utter astonishment, it snapped right into place! A perfect fit! I then cut my old key open and removed the chip from it. I loaded the chip into the new key. I re-attached the ignition assembly to the steering column, re-connected all the wires, and the car started right up! I couldn't be happier with this product! It saved me a bunch of money! A couple of hints: 1) There are several videos on YouTube describing this repair. Use a dremel tool to cut slots in the tops of these bolts, then you can remove them with a plain screwdriver. Replace them with bolts of the same thread pattern an length. 3) It is easiest to perform this repair by pulling the entire ignition assembly out of the car. When doing so, you must diconnect several electrical connectors. DO NOT MESS WITH YELLOW CONNECTORS! They are part of your airbag system and do not connect to the ignition assembly. Also, it is best to disconnect the negative lead from the car's battery before beginning this repair. 4) The only adjustment I had to make was re-aligning the ignition switch (white component at the opposite end of assembly from key-side). The local auto parts store wanted $450 and the locksmith wanted $200 for programing the security feature. The cylinder was installed and the chip was cut out of the old key and put in the new set of keys. It started right up without an issue. The hardest part was drilling out the pin holding in the old cylinder. Simply remove the tab from the column, the trim piece is enough to hold the new piece securely. There are primarily 2 different types of these locks. Short and long. Look at the pictures and compare yours. **Q: Does this fit a Honda Civic ex 2 door?** A: Yes but you need to get the keys programmed there is no chip **Q: Does these key have a transponder in it? That way i just need to just get a chip in it. Was told if no transponder then tese keys are not good? Help?** A: They don't come with a chip but there is compartment to hold one. If your key has a removable chip, no problem. I actually had to go cut another key at the hardware storr **Q: Can i just swap the chip from the old key to this new one so i don't have to program it??** A: If your vehicle has an anti-theft device or your current key has a chip then you will have to get it programmed. I saved almost $650 ordering this and almost $950 doing it myself. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 2007 HONDA CIVIC- it works, save$$$ *by B***H on August 10, 2024* I ordered this in hopes of saving money. At this point in my cars life, that expensive of a repair for something so stupid hurts. The BudgetClan you tube video shows how to remove lock cylinder. My car had 4 screws, not 3. That last one... you can see it, it's just in a tight tricky spot. I did have to purchase a right angle screw driver ($10) to remove it. I had to drill the pin out, I tried giggling and shaking but no luck. I used a 7/32nd bit and found the chamber. If you know how to use tools, you can find the videos and do this! As for the key, I had two old remote keys and took the superglued one apart. I took the board and battery piece out that holds the transponder (it has its own tiny plastic housing), and it's electrical tapped to the key for now. It starts and stays running. The only thing that feels different, is you have to push the key in pretty firmly to enable it to both turn to start and turn off. Otherwise it feels stuck. Maybe this loosens out? Or is just a part of "this" parts design, but if the key feels stuck, try pushing in and turning.
