People looking for a fast paced action shooting game will most likely feel letdown with this game. It is a very slow paced game, and your only weapon is an old camera. That's right a camera. Now as corny as it sounds, it works very well. You have to take pictures of the ghosts in order to get rid of them. You can't shoot them, you really actually can't run. They do give chase and can go through walls. To have to stand there and face one of those ghosts, many are really freaky, is quite nerve racking in itself. The people who made this game really had a knack for knowing what makes people jump. The music can be creepy, and the ghost sounds are just freaky. I was quite pleased with this game the second time around after I played with an open mind. The story is not all that original, but the gameplay itself is and it feels fresh and new. I am a big fan of the Resident Evil franchise and Silent Hill franchise, but I think this game tops them in terms of scary. Resident Evil as really ventured off into more of a shooter game. Heavy on action and guns. Silent Hill is more just freaky and very puzzle driven. In terms of scary this one the best one. As you explore, the "spirit sensor" light might start to glow, meaning there's a spirit nearby. With the rumble pack throbbing to your increased heartbeat, you might often get attacked from behind or in some cases, as you're frantically looking around through the view finder (the only way to see the spirits), you're being attacked near your feet. Anyway, I only got a little way into the game and was too scared to continue, traded it in. A few years later, I was totally in the mood for a different kind of game, THIS kind of game. Bought it, started playing it and almost got to the same place and quit once again, gave the game away to a friend. Finally, about 6 months ago, I once again felt like playing it, bought it and yes, shortly after reaching the same place (completely prepared for everything up to that point), I again got too frightened to keep playing. Never before have I been on edge as much as I have been playing Fatal Frame. Resident Evil, while an amazing series, is nowhere near as scary or horrifying as the Fatal Frame games are. The gameplay in this game is one the the most unique of any game. You only have one weapon: a camera. This is no ordinary camera though, it is the Camerca Obscura, a supernatural camera invented for the soul purpose of seeing and exorcising spirits. Throughout the game you are able to find extensions that broaden the cameras capabilities as well as being able to power up the abilities already availible. One bit of advice to all who intend to buy this game: play this game at night with all the lights off. Trust me on this you will find the experience otherworldly if you play this game ONLY at night.
