**Q: can you take some of the sand out? as i would like to use this in a time out chair for a little one and 30 minutes is to long for a little one**
A: No you can't remove any sand, it's not like a piggy bank with the stopper in it. This is a lovely piece but, it is fragile and I would not put it near a small child, the glass could easily break. How about a plastic egg timer with the sand in it??

I never had a larger hour glass and this one is perfect. No wood or metal supports to detract. It looks rather delicate but is well made. For an accent piece that does not take up a lot of room, you can't go wrong.
