What's the difference between Povidone iodine and Lugols?

Povidone-iodine, also known as iodopovidone, is an antiseptic used for skin disinfection before and after surgery. It can be used both to disinfect the hands of healthcare workers and to disinfect the skin of the person they care for. It can also be used for minor wounds. Lugol's solution is a mixture of element iodine and potassium iodide dissolved in water.

Contrary to another responder’s answer here, Lugol’s is not restricted to dermal use as other forms of iodine, which are only used externally. Lugol’s can indeed be taken internally, in water or any other hot or cold drink (but don’t stir it with a metal spoon, or you’ll change it into only potassium iodide). And yes, because there is a huge overlap with fibromyalgia and low thyroid, Lugol’s is highly beneficial for fibro sufferers. I should know, I’m one of them!

I don't think so. I use it to inhale with sea salt if I have sore throat or cough. I only put 2 drops in some course sea salt then deep inhale it 10 to 15 times.

Good non-stinging brand iodine for scratches and deeper wounds

Lugol's high-strength iodine was terrific and although not the Continental stinging type, did disinfect scratches and deeper wounds very effectively. Made in the UK, I can recommend it, but can't find it under this name anymore. That is because it has been rebranded as Bob's (with the Lugol name secondary). This version is also good, but I miss the sting of raw iodine (so you know it is working!)
