The best wider lightweight lens you'll ever have
I was after a wider angle lens and considering the GM 24mm as it's highly recommended by 99% of the photographers, but the lens price was holding me back from clicking on that 'buy now' button. When I came across this G 20mm f1.8 and noticed its price I got a bit confused for the similarities with the GM but costing much less. I read lots and lots of reviews and watched to many videos and honestly some of the reviewers were even recommending this lens over the expensive sibling GM in what regards sharpness and cost. The autofocus is fantastic!I gave it a try and I couldn't be happier. The lens is fantastic: lightweight, small and it's perfect for outdoors shootings and estate photography. On my first weekend with this lens I went to the Highlands and managed to capture stunning images. It was really worth it. It is basically a GM lens in a G body and price. It has all the features you'd find in the expensive brother, plus the wider aperture and lighter weight. The chromatic aberration is little to none and the vignetting isn't strong and easily corrected in post. The sharpness at 1.8 is really good. I have added some photos in this review to show what this lens is capable of.I have only prime lenses (by personal choice) and this one is definitely be kept in my A7III for a long time. I am definitely happy with my purchase and would highly recommend.

Clear, sharp pictures
This lens is brilliant, its auto focus is fast, silent and near perfect. The image quality is excellent.I have seen several reviews before buying this lens, and they have all said that this is a very well built, well thought lens, and I have to agree. It is much cheaper then the 24mm GM, and I can't fault it, I haven't used the 24mm, so I can't compare, but looking at reviews online, if you are hesitating between the two, the 20mm seems to be much better value for money. I'm very happy with - well done Sony.

My favourite lens by far
I’ve never been one to shoot wide lenses much.I’ve bought and sold many lenses for many systems throughout the years, but ever since trying out the Panasonic S5 with the 20-60mm standard lens, I fell in love with the 20mm focal length.I also bought this lens as a good compromise between general usability and a great astrophotography tool. I was debating getting a 14mm f/1.4 (very expensive) or a f/2.8 (much cheaper), but either it would be too much to justify, and also too wide for most usage cases, or cheap enough but 2.8 wouldn’t be bright enough for astro, even though at 14mm, you can shoot a longer exposure, it still came back to the usability aspect outside of the one or two nights a year where I might get to do astro. So I landed on this 20mm, which at f/1.8 it’s very bright, it’s well built, I quite like the G-Master inspired aperture ring on a lesser “G” lens, it’s also very light and compact. One thing they bugs me, and it’s probably to do with the autofocus mechanism, is the lens rattles when not powered by the camera. The mechanism doesn’t stay in place. I’m guessing it’s auto-calibrating and what not, but feels like it’s broken. Reviewers on the interwebs have mentioned that too, apparently it’s normal, but I can’t help but feel that if I ever drop it and nothing else breaks, because of the sheer impact and the bits moving inside of it, that those will stop working accordingly and maybe it won’t focus anymore. And there’s no physical manual override. Manual focus actuates the focusing motors electronically, just like most lenses made in the last 6-8 years. Only time will tell, but I’ll try to not drop it and I will enjoy using it for as long as I’ll own it. Wonderful lens.

Gorgeous wide angle
Does exactly what it says on the tin. The 20mm focal length takes a bit of getting used to - a lot of foreground! The images are crisp and true and the super fast focal length makes handheld nightshots a real possibility. Great lens.

A simply wonderful lens
Bang for buck this lens is fantastic for prime shooters. I use it predominantly for video on the A7SIII and it's just wonderful for wide shots.

Beautiful prime optic
The lens is compact, but don’t let the size fool you. It may be a G lens but it performs by a GM lens, and punches well above its weight. It’s unbelievably sharp, the color rendition is great, flaring is well controlled and it produces some very pleasing sun bursts. Chromatic aberrations are simply non existent in all my testing, and it renders backlit subjects beautifully.I’m primarily using it for landscape and Astro and it doesn’t disappoint in either scene. The lens is an Astrophotographers dream if you don’t mind the fixed aperture.I’ve been using it for 2 months and this prime is fixed to my camera most of the time.I’ve found nothing so far that I dislike about the lens, it’s near optically perfect.

Sharp and fast
This lens gets excellent reviews online. I wanted a fast wide prime that's good wide open for night photography. Amazon had it for a good price and interest free credit also, plus I got a £100.00 cash back from Sony because I'd just purchased a new camera - all helped to make it a no brainer
