American Primitive Guitar Paperback – March 22, 2002

This book is great for fans of John Fahey's style and of the fingerpicking style in general. The book includes some of Fahey's most recognized tunes and are included in tab and standard notation. If you are comfortable with both types of notation, learning these songs should be easy and fun.If you are on this page, its likely that you are already a follower of Fahey's style. Apart from the songs contained in the book, which I assume most of you are already intimately familiar with and love, the book contains a wonderful article written about John Fahey that covers just about every aspect of the man. Moreover, the book includes 3 audio discs of Fahey's guidance through particular techniques, methods, and theories. These treasures are what really make this book distinct from other music instruction book and far more of a personal experience.

Easy to read and is accurate. I haven't checked out the CD's yet. The tablature is written in a style I haven't seen before where the finger placement is between lines instead of on the lines. Different for me at first, but easy to read. Nice book.

If you enjoy John Fahey's music and want to learn a few of his songs I highly suggest you buy this book. Take a look at the baby is a song structured around simple chords, but is not easy to learn. Once you get his playing style down the songs become easier to learn and are very enjoyable to play. Buy this book and enjoy the genius of John Fahey.

Many of the tabs here are way off; for example, In Christ There is No East or West, the fast section is missing several notes. Ditto with other tunes. Fahey may be playing these songs on the CDs, but the actual transcriptions are incorrect, which makes the book a complete waste. There are better tabs out there on the internet, even.

This book is a very useful introduction to Fahey's playing style. He takes you step by step through each piece and explains his picking technique in great detail. He has a very relaxed and open-minded teaching approach. I found it encouraging that he doesn't insist that his pieces should be played or interpreted in one way. After learning several of the songs in this book, I feel like have a good foundation for learning more Fahey tunes.

this is a pretty good buy. the tabs were alittle different than what i was use to but you can figure the system out pretty quick. haven't had the book very long now put have learned son of the songs with relative eaze. the right up about fahey is interesting and hearing him talk on the audio is cool learn some interesting things about the man. fahey himself is not to great at teaching of maybe i'm not to great at listenig the tabs and song track helped me out way more than any of his explainations.

L'homme parait primitif, mais il était bien en avance sur son temps, il avait commencé sa carriere à la fin des années 50.Avec son style unique , puissant , inventif , on sent bien l 'influence d' Elizabeth Cotten, rev Gary Davis et Charley Patton avec des" bends" bien placés. Un vrai pionnier !Tous les morceaux de cette méthode sont très bien sélectionnés depuis le repertoire de J.FAHEY, la plupart en "Standard Tuning" sauf: When The Springtime comes Again qui est en Drop D et The Approaching , en open D.Avec 3 CDs et les bonnes grosses tablatures "a la Stefan Grossmann", un "matériel" rare disponible comme ca, c 'est vraiment un "Must Have".

Pretty solid book. Just wished there were more songs on it.
