Who better to help you celebrate that most wonderful time of the year than holiday favorites Bad Religion? Bad Religion have threatened to record an album of seasonal classics for years, and now they've gone and done it, tackling eight chestnuts in their classic punk rock style. Review: A must-own for Bad Religion fans! - Although I am biased as this is my favorite band, this is a great album! I love Christmas, so hearing my favorite band sing some of the most classic Christmas songs of all time was a fun addition to my holiday season. It seems ironic and to some it may sound almost contradictory, but somehow they managed to make these classic Christmas songs their own while not altering the sense of the warm, Christmas spirit they convey. The irony there is obviously having an atheist front man singing some of the most beloved Christmas songs that happen to be the most Christian ones (i.e., he's not singing jingle-bells and rudolph the red-nosed reindeer :P). It seems their aim was to select the most popular or classic songs, which I think was the right direction for this album. If anything, it just adds to its charm. The only criticism that I and some friends of mine had is actually not a criticism at all--just like a great movie coming to an end leaves you wanting more, this album's songs are very short and might make you sad it went by so fast the first listen! Because they were so short, I found myself listening over and over again, which did make that initial freshness wear off sooner than it would with a normal-length album with more songs. But with that being the worst I have to say about this album, myself and everyone else I talked to about this album to have no REAL complaints, only praise! Review: Awesome Christmas album! - Who would have ever expected Bad Religion to ever do a Christmas album?! This was really surprising in more ways than one. After getting over the initial shock that they'd do a Christmas album, I expected they'd parody each song. Or, maybe it wouldn't live up to their quality of music. In short, no and no! These are very well done arrangements, and are respectfully done. The songs have the punk rock feel of late eighties, early nineties BR, but manage to stay true to the classic songs. As a fan of Bad Religion and someone who typically doesn't like Christmas music, I have to say, I love this album. No reservations, buy this!

Excellent album.
We love this c.d. It has Christmas hymns and we really love hearing them in a fun, upbeat way. We, also, find that many Christmas radio stations where we live won't pay hymns. I'm not trying to get churchy here but there are so many Christmas songs out there and adding the hymns would eliminate so much repetition. This has their popular song American Jesus too. My husband and I listen to this c.d. every Christmas!

a joyful noise
This may be WAY too far outside the limits of Christmas music for the traditionalists, but if you want to sing "Gloria in excelsis deo" like you really mean it, you can't do better than this rendition of Angels We Have Heard on High. And if you were a Little Drummer Boy who was invited to view the newborn savior, by God I think you'd want to pound your drum as hard as you'll be pounding your steering wheel playing this album in the car (and wishing the track lasted longer than 2 minutes). No irreverence here (as one of the band members said on NPR, it's funny what having kids will do to you), just an unabashed rocking out of joyous holiday songs. Love it.

Punk the halls.
This is a great Christmas album, with straight-up punkish versions of some terrific Christmas carols--and "American Jesus" to punctuate the album with how they really feel. Unlike the first reviewer, I have no bad associations with Christmas or other religious music. I was very happy as a Christian, and still love much of the music. As Tim Minchin says in White Wine in the Sun , the lyrics are dodgy, but the music is quite good. Why not enjoy it? I can imagine whipping up some nog, putting this CD on and dancing around the Christmas tree with reckless mosh pit abandon. Happy Birthday, Baby Jesus. Myth though your story certainly is, you inspired some excellent tunes. And gawd bless you, Bad Religion, for stepping out into some truly--for you--fringe territory. And for confusing the hell out of just about everybody with this thing...which is as punk and anarchic a thing to do as I can imagine. It's probably worth noting, in this context, that Irving Berlin, who wrote "White Christmas" (track 4 on the CD) was a secular Jew, so there is precedent for making great holiday music despite not sharing in the deepest sense of the holiday itself. The music is pretty much what you'd expect as a Bad Religion fan--tight, fast, with great harmonies (it opens with a truly lovely riff on "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!" that would not be out of place in a church--until the moment the buzzing guitar and pounding drums kick in). Speaking of drums, one minor disappointment: "The Little Drummer Boy" could have done with a small drum solo. Nothing epic--BR drummer Brooks Wackerman is a wizard time-keeper at breakneck pace, not Neil Peart--but a few riffs and fills would have felt completely natural on that song, rather than the martial "rumpty-tump-tum" thing throughout. With that quibble aside, back to praise: this is, for all I can tell, an unironic love letter to the great tunes that the festive season has given us...has given us ALL, including we atheists who like the story, as a story, but don't believe a word of it. Cheers! And if there is no god to "bless us everyone," as front man Greg Graffin (and I) actually think, then let us bless each other.

but this is seriously one of my favorite Bad Religion albums
I was wary that the release was a joke at first, but this is seriously one of my favorite Bad Religion albums. They play each song straight down the line in their signature style, never dipping into irony. My only gripe is the inclusion of American Jesus at the end. It seems nifty at first because it's an eff-you to religion right after all the Xmas songs. But when this album got such a heavy rotation around our house during the holidays, I never wanted that track at the end. It distracts from the fun and is simply out of place.

Awesome cd
This cd had some of my favorite Christmas songs in true Punk Rock fashion. For a band called Bad Religion they chose some of the most religious songs to perform. Kind of ironic.
