No, they aren't waterproof. The fabric is made of 100% cotton and is very high quality and durable. However, we don't recommend Beddy's for children who are still having accidents because they will wear out faster if they're being washed more than the recommended one time per week. No I am in Utah and its pretty light weight. Very warm and nice. It has minkey material on the blanket inside .The sheet on the bottom of the bedding is nice. I have never been hot sleeping in these wonderful beddy's. Buy a beddy's and you will never go back to any other kind of bedding.
