The Bathroom Key: Put an End to Incontinence

Should Be Required Reading
I purchased this in 2013 when I first started noticing symptoms of a hypertonic bladder and kegles weren’t helping at all, This got steadily worse as compressed nerve roots at L4-S1 were causing overlapping symptoms and, thanks to the book I was able to ask for pelvic floor physical therapy. Who knew it even existed? Having learned the possibility of its usefulness I was able to move past the necessary invasiveness of aspects of treatment and was motivated to set aside PTSD issues in order to develop the level of trust required to let my therapist find and treat trigger points vaginally. A few years later after multistage spinal surgeries and a two month stay in a rehab facility (just as covid was moving into the nursing home undetected), I’m again focusing on my pelvic floor and not allowing myself to become hostage to my bladder again. Time to review the book again. I also recommend researching the biofeedback devices now available that my therapist she trained me to use on my own; Elvie, and Intimate Rose. Both available on Amazon.

Incomplete Information
I did buy this book from Amazon tho some time ago. While I wouldn't totally discourage women from buying it, it is incomplete. I had IC so cannot do kugels. When I did do them pre-IC they actually caused incontinence, which I know from my holistic nurse is definitely kegel-connected. Also this book relies heavily on Pilates with a lot of expensive equipment I couldn't keep at home. What would be REALLY helpful would be a book I've searched for, to provide exercises free of kugels and equipment, or to revise this book with that information included. Don't buy if you have IC. There is also no acknowledgement that kugels were developed decades ago and that we need something new and effective. Authors should acknowledge the damage kugels can do.

Love the book but it includes many forms to photocopy, impossible with Kindle version
If I had realized before I bought the Kindle version, that this book has so much forms to photocopy, I'd have bought the paperback version instead. Apparently the author hasn't made it possible to download the forms anywhere, which is disappointing. The book itself, though, is terrific. I just recommend buying the paperback version from the start.

Best book on the subject
Wow a book with a simple solution to a serious and very embarrassing problem. I bought 3 copies of The Bathroom Key. One to keep and two to give to friends. This is an outstanding book on how to cure urinary incontinence with physical therapy. The book is written in a very easy to read conversational style. The exercises are well illustrated by the authors, and easy to follow. My friend couldn't put the book down. She was so excited, she immediately ordered two books, one for a friend who had urinary incontinence, and one for her doctor. In sharing her excitement how this book helped her, she discovered how common this problem really is. The book gave her permission to discuss the issue of incontinence in a non-threatening way that otherwise remains tabu. She's ordering more books. While The Bathroom Key is a serious medical book, and covers the subject in depth, it reads more like a novel, with real stories that captivate the reader, lay and professional alike. The book gives the reader hope and the means to conquer her incontinence without resorting to medication or surgery. Highly recommend it.

LOVE THE TITLE (AND THE BOOK)
I love the title--this book IS the KEY to all bladder issues! I learned so much from this book--like what's considered normal bladder function (voiding only 5 to 7 times during the day and 0 times at night). The authors then TEACH you how to achieve this, over time, day by day. The list of "30 ways to Prevent UTI's" is such useful knowledge that I never knew before. NO ONE knows this stuff, because NO ONE educated our mothers either! That unfortunate trend stops here with this book. And who even knew KEGEL was a MAN? Not me! Now I know he was a distinguished USC gynecologist after reading the interesting bio from his son and seeing his vintage photos. (And he was handsome!) Every woman can get something valuable out of this book and more importantly, they can learn how to get their bladders and core muscles working normally again! Who wants to be the woman who is last in line to the restroom, cringing with anxiety! NOT ME!

Wish my OB had told me about this book YEARS AGO
So this book makes me furious with every GYN doc I have been to and complained about my lack of control. Do kegels they say but no one ever took the time to say - are you doing kegels correctly, do you realize if you do them correctly you can almost ENTIRELY cure yourself of leakage......no one ever said that. I also located a local PT who specializes in care for women who taught me through biofeedback how to properly do them, gave me exercises and really enlightened me on this. You DO NOT have to live with leakage, accidents whether you've had children, whether you have a weak pelvic floor and I've lived years with this embarrassing problem. The medical community is doing a huge disservice by not educating women better about this and I made my PT promise she will market heavily to gyn offices to tell women they can help themselves. A MUST READ

Every woman needs this information!
Excellent book. Wish I had gotten it sooner. I just had pelvic organ prolapse surgery and I probably could have prevented that if I had had this book. My pelvic floor had weakened from years of doing exercises that put too much stress on the pelvic floor. And simply lifting too much weight! I got this for both of my daughters. I think every woman should have a copy of this book to understand how staying healthy is more than having a Doctor tell you to do kegel exercises!

An end to an embarrassing problem.
When I read the write up on this book I naturally thought that this was just another boring book that just dealt with medical matters only especially as it was from America but as I started to read it I was slightly amazed as it dealt with this very embarrassing problem in a very human way .Every page was written in a very practical and helpful way which was very easy to understand .Yes I can most certainly recommend this book to any one who has this very embarrassing problem.

Excellent purchase!
I am only 1/3 through this book and on my 3rd week of exercises. I've already noticed a difference. I can't understand why doctors recommend operations when it's so unnecessary. I will be promoting this book big time to all my friends. Exercises are really short and easy. I feel so lucky that I found and purchased this book. If you're considering it, don't hesitate. It's so informative. The best purchase I have made in a long time. Buy it for sure. You won't regret it.
