Great for re grinding bevels in chisels and planes
Incredible stone. Flat, fast cutting. This is my 2nd Atoma (first one was the 400). Highly recommend Atoma and if you need an aggressive stone that will remove a lot of steel quickly but don't want to use a grinding wheel, this is a great stone for re grinding bevels in chisels and planes.

My favorite Extra coarse stone.
This a great quality stone, made in Japan..it cuts very fast , and is suitable for all size knives. I have even used it as a lapping stone for softer aluminum oxide stones and it still cuts steel wonderfully..this is what you use to established a bevel or repair a badly damaged bevel. This is not an everyday or every week maintaining Stone. It is very aggressive. The base is made from aluminum and is very flat. You can use a heat gun to heat it up and replace the abrasive on top once it's worn out and you can also attach another grit to the back side if you would like to have a dual sided stone, which they sell the individual cards instead of the whole Stone as well.

Works fantastic for flattening water stones and bevel establishment
The best part is that as far as I can tell, the surface is extremely flat which was very important to me. This makes very quick work of flattening water stones. It's a little slower than I expected for flattening the backs of chisels, but I also haven't found anything faster, so maybe it's as good as one can realistically hope for?I also really appreciate the size of it. I have some smaller DMT plates, and while excellent, they were much harder to use for most tasks due to the smaller size.I have a number of water, oil and diamond stones and this has become one of the most important ones in my collection.Update:So I've had this plate for quite a while and it's still working well, if slower than expected. I still like it a lot and still think it's probably the best value in its class, but I'm surprised at how slowly it cuts. I'm really on the edge as to whether I think it should be 4 or 5 stars because of that. Everything else about it is excellent, but when you're buying a 140 grit stone you expect it to hog off material like crazy. I guess I would call it 4.5 stars if I could. Buy it, but if you're planning on flattening chisel or plane iron backs with it don't expect miracles; it's still going to be a workout. The main reason I edited this review at all was to add a picture I just took with a cheap usb microscope. Keep in mind this is after a year or so of use. More interesting than anything else.

Great product
Very high end plate. I've been using mine for months and it's not shown much wear. They're super flat, they cut fast and these have replaceable faces which is a plus. You can buy a 140 grit plate, and a 400 grit replacement face and stick it on the other side and you have a dual side diamond plate for half the price of most other diamond plates. They're great for reprofiling, edge repair, or flattening whetstones.

Coarsest stone
This is the coarsest stone I have found. Cuts so fast. Great for chips and reprofiling. Large plate that is perfectly flat

A better flattening stone than an actual flattening stone
Bought this as a truing stone for my actual whetstone. Does a great job flattening and rounding off the edges and is easy to rinse off when you're done. I haven't tried actually sharpening anything with this yet, so I can't speak to it's capability there

Worthy
I love working with bladed tools. I’ve been sharpening knives for friends and family for a few years now and have neglected this piece of kit for far too long. Didn’t think I could justify it. Had to hop on here to say I was wrong. I had to sharpen a yanagiba and went to sharpen the uroshi and my stones just couldn’t get it done before because my stones not being flat. This product does work very fast. I’lL estimate that it should flatten your stones within a few minutes if they are in bad shape and under a minute if your doing some routine flattening. My time matters and the whole act of sharpening is a hobby of mine. This works and is 100% worth the investment.I’ve even sharpened a few “goner” knives that I just could not get a apex on with other stones. In a few minutes I got a apex using this stone. Not much more to be said. Works. Worth it.

Great Flattening plate for the price
I use this for all of my Shapton stones 3000k and below. I use the 600 grit atoma plate to flatten anything above 5k. They are awesome and last a long time and when they aren't working well anymore just pull of the replaceable Diamond sheet and stick on a new one. I have a 600 grit on one side of the plate and the 140 on the other side its a great 1/2 punch. They also work great for fixing chips and broken tips in a hurry.
