Hey Pup, Fetch It Up!: The Complete Retriever Training Book

For countryman or City dweller.
This book is an easy read with lots of useful tips and tricks. If you're training your pup to be a hunting companion, a guard dog, or simply a family friend, Bill Tarrant's 'Hey Pup, Fetch It Up!' is definitely a must read. His methods are for those who respect and love dogs for what they are, dogs. Bill Tarrant undoubtedly loves his dogs and wants what's best for them.I'd recommend this for anyone who has a pup and wants his pup to be a respectable disciplined dog.

Make you pup part of your family. If you can’t do this you don’t need a dog!!
This is THE best book I’ve read on training retriever dogs. I’ve used the info I gained from reading it to train two Lab. The author sort of rambles but it’s EZ reading and EZ to apply what he suggests you do in outer to train your pup.

Just what I was looking for
I was surprised. I thought I would be getting a "used" book, but instead it is new. The book contains a method of training a retrieve that I had been told about, but had ne er actually seen. The retrieve is important in many dog competition sports,, and its important in Service Dog training, as well. Bill Tarrant was a well respected authority on gun dog training. I am looking forward to using some of the training methods, as the modern way of going about some things does not guarantee reliability.

Best book out there for training retrievers!
Tarrant gives good, solid, easy to read guidance on taking a dog from puppy to finished retriever. Great book for training a dog even if you're not a hunter.

Understated condition
Used status said good condition... it wasn’t brand new but GREAT condition. Thank you!!

At times entertaining...
While the book has a few interesting anecdotes and the author clearly loves dogs it is far from a clear and concise training manual. The constant anecdotal style and informal writing had me skipping pages to get to the techniques. My biggest issue with the book is the authors suggestion to short tie a pup and leave it alone for a few hours. This does not jive with his no harm to the dog attitude according to all the other dog training manuals out there.
