Nainsukh of Guler: A Great Indian Painter from a Small Hill-State

India is a country with an artistic legacy whose roots go deep into the history of man as a species. It is the birthplace of many styles of arts such as painting, dance, music etc. The trouble that one comes across when dealing with art that pertains to previous centuries is that most of the works of art like paintings, sketches etc. have not been attributed properly to their respective creators and hence a lot of these artists go unacknowledged. B.N Goswamy's book `Nainsukh of Guler' explores the history of Nainsukh, a painter born in 1710 in the small state of Guler. The paintings that are presented in the book, in my opinion, are truly marvelous. They in their simple look present the world in a beautiful spectrum of colors which have an inert complexity of their own. Adding to this the narrative which flows almost like poetry does justice to the illustrations and gives an in depth historical and cultural background to every painting making it much easier to approach for the reader. It is a must buy for painting enthusiasts and at the same time isn't, in my opinion, a bad deal for anyone who wants to read something.

A fascinating book as it brings to life a whole world of Indian princes and their favoured artists suggesting the close bond between them. We can view so much art from the past and forget the background that created these masterpieces. Nainsukh might easily have been dismissed as a minor painter with a few outstanding pictures to his name. This book shows just how great an artist he was and clarifies why he was the inspiration behind one of the greatest art movements in Indian and World Painting, namely the Guler/Kangra school.

Last part of reconstruction show whole Paintings and Drawing of Manaku related to Hindu epics. Every single folio show a unique episode of hindu epics.

This book Nainsukh of Guler is a miniaturepainting book. And it is not batter then Pahari Masters Court painting book. After all the book is good one . If u have Pahari Masters painting book so u don't bye it .

Amazing book - so much history behind Kangra art. Had bought some Kangra art from Dharmsala, got intrigued, so bought this book. Loved learning about the rich history behind it.

Book is awesome.but the printing quality is not so good. And picture are very small in size..
