It seems some people don’t know the difference between aluminum and plastic. Yes, the actual projector body is plastic, but that is probably because of the great night light feature. The rest of it is made of brushed aluminum and glass. The projection quality is incredible, and not the the brightest, but that is probably by design as it would probably wash out some of the detail. Maybe some of the reviewers need to read the instructions and learn that there is a focus dial. A little pricey, but well worth it. It seems to be an impressive feature.** A: No nightlight now bc too complex, yet the cost didnt go down? Shame. Was mainly interested in this for the nightlight as I work from home in a dark office cave. The nightlight, and stellarium, would have made an excellent vibe. I'll save myself $300 and get the Sega one instead since this one now doesn't include basically the one feature that sets it apart. Heck even a standalone stellarium nightlight and the Sega homestar flux can be had for under half the price of this. I think I'll do that. I'd only buy this if it got closer to the Sega price. $350 or under. Not enough value otherwise, no matter the sales pitch. **Q: Could this work for educational purposes? I teach space science to 8th grade students.** A: Hi Eileen, Not to kill a sale here but I don't the DS1 would be the best choice for 8th graders. If it's used in the classroom I think it will be very hard to get the room dark enough to highlight what the DS1 can show. I might suggest the Homestar Flux which they have improved. And if you replace the stock discs with some of our replacement discs we sell for the Flux it will give you a really great view of the night sky plus at half the price of the DS1 you would have extra $$ to buy additional discs. When is the night light coming back?** A: Hi Matthew A step down transformer will not work. We have had several customers try this and it blew the electronics in the DA1. We do have international adapters available The nightlight feature was discontinued for several reasons. The main one was there was very little interest in it. Out of the 2,000 projectors we sold we only had a handful of people even mention it with several saying they never used it. The nightlight feature also added a lot of complexity and cost to the DS1. If we bring out the nightlight feature on the next run we will make it available as an upgrade for our customers that don't have it. The next run is at about 18 months away.
