My 9 year old son loves them!
I bought these books for my 9 year old son on recommendation from Read Aloud Revival. They have been such a hit! Not only does my son adore them all (and we had to buy the companion books as well) but they have sparked such great conversations! They are full of great lessons but not in an in your face way. They remind me of the C.S. Lewis quote, “Since it is so likely children will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage.” The bad guys in this story are bad, but the stories also have good that triumphs. These books have been such a blessing- thanks S.D. Smith and RAR for the recommendation!

Til the green ember rises or the end of the world!
These books are so good! I just finished reading them aloud to my youngest (11 & 9 year olds). It’s full of action and adventure, hope in the midst of trials and loss, finding your purpose, sacrificing for the greater good, and the hope of a better future. So many great talking points with the kids and my oldest has been able to use it for her writing assignments. I highly recommend reading this aloud. We laughed, I cried, and we couldn’t wait to find out how it ended. We just started The Blackstar of Kingston, because we just aren’t ready to be done with this series.

Our family's favorite book series
Kid #1 (age 5): I liked the bravery of the characters and the action. There were sad moments and joyful moments. My favorite characters are Smalls and Kyle.Kid #2 (age 7): I liked that the story unfolded in a suspenseful way. We learned about Heather and Picket's world as they learned more about it. The mysteries become revealed one by one throughout the series. My favorite characters are Picket and Heather.Dad: I liked mix of tragedy, comedy, noble and true characters, and unpredictable plot. This has been our family's favorite series.

An Amazing Adventure for Christian families
The media could not be loaded. I didn't know what my three boys would think of a book about bunnies, but this high stakes adventure drew them in like a moth to the flame. It is such a great story with so many amazing themes. SD Smith is a joy to follow on social media and is always encouraging kids to love God and step out in faith.

A family favorite
Next to the Chronicles of Narnia, this series quickly climbed to the top of the list for family favorites. We're working our way through the series for the third time in I believe 3 years.S. D. Smith crafts a delightful tale that encompasses the range of human emotion. His stories don't hide the darkness that surrounds each of us, but he also illuminates hope. The phrase "it will not be so in the mended wood" continues to be repeated in our home as we battle against the darkness. And now, as I've been writing more, I feel like Heather. A scribe writing to give hope to those weary of the darkness.
