Free trick for a GREAT book
A really really good book to build hand-foot, back-and-forth paradiddles and such.I had studied under a big band great in Western NY for some time and one item that was not in the book he threw at me was as follows:You have the regular "Cook Book" beat-right? click the Hi-Hat off-8th note and 16s on the ride. Now break the 16th note ride rhythm into cut-time bebop "ding-dalla-dings" against the straight four pattern of the book! Hahaha! Awesome isn't it? You will free hand and foot coordination to play any thing up-tempo and be-bop.Use a metronone with an earplug...or you can get free phone/tablet apps via Amazon for Droid.Remember...two notes on top of each other means "at the very same time" and not "kinda-sorta."Also recommend the Carmine Appice books for "Realistic Rock" and Double Bass Drum. The Ultimate Realistic Rock Drum MethodENJOY! It will make a mark improvement in a short time.

Great grooves
I used this book when I first took lessons, and it's still a great way to get really comfortable with almost every imaginable variation of the basic 4/4 rock beat. The grooves in here are fun to play and can be used in real playing, it's not just for learning.

Very good Hip Hop, modern drum Method
It gives you independent hand/foot studies in logical combinations of sixteenth notes against an ostinato cymbal part. Good looking notation.

An excellent title but...
This is NOT for rank beginners by any stretch. The majority of the book provides a number of two bar rhythms to practice along with 8th and 16th note hi-hats. Almost all of the beats require a good 16th note ability on bass and snare drum and if you haven't got this down yet, this is the wrong book for you. While I definitely recommend this book as an excellent volume, I suggest Jim Payne's Funk Drumming book as a precursor. It will take you to where this book really begins. Also, this volume is NOT set up anything like Pickering's Studio Jazz book (which I also own and highly endorse). So if you already own that volume, expect a very different approach from this one.

More to book than meets the eye
My drum teacher told me to buy this book. I thought the book was pretty basic when I first looked at it. Then I took it to him and he showed me how to use it. He had me play the ride cymbal on 8 notes so that I could keep the high hat going on the quarter notes with my left foot, while still playing bass and snare drum where indicated in the book. Then he had me play all 16th notes on the high hat, bringing down either the left or right hand on the snare where the book indicates a snare drum note, and of course playing bass drum where indicated. This makes the book so much more challenging and so much more fun.

A New Approach
This is a great book because it builds varations over a given rhythm unit and shows you that subtle changes can lead to interesting variations.Once you know a rhythm and can make variations on it, it becomes yours in a way that most music instruction books miss with their examples.

Un libro per progredire
Suggerito dall'insegnante di batteria di mio figlio (9 anni). Io non capisco nulla riguardo a questo genere di libri quindi non posso pronunciarmi.Deduco che si tratti di un buon libro.
