Volant18840 Air Intake

Bought this for my 2018 limited 4Runner. I had a K&N intake on my Tacoma. I wanted to go a different route on this build. I chose this Volant intake after doing extensive research on close box designs on a few other companies. I’m very happy with this intake. Regular driving I got back 3/4 of a mile per gallon which I’m stoked with. If you want to hear your engine roar just stomp that gas and believe me you’ll tell yourself why didn’t I put a cold air intake in earlier if you do that a lot you’ll see your mpg go down quit a bit. I would buy again.

From day one this caused issues with fuel trim. Mileage took a 2mpg hit and CEL every 500 miles. This piece should not even be on the market, unfortunately I can not return the item because it's used.Stay away, spend the extra for TRD intake or leave it stock.

Guys, the new airflow will confuse the ECU and throw codes. Buy URDs MAF sensor calibrator to avoid getting the codes thrown. also make sure the ignition is not one to avoid the O2 disconnect errors. Install went well, the o2 sensor mount sticks out a bit, so stop when it is snug.

Item was as described except that it had been manufactured with two defects. These problems were not evident until the install. First, the Volant filter box mounting bolt holes didn't line up with the vehicle's factory threaded inserts so I modified them to work. Then, when I tried to install the MAF sensor, I found that the Volant's brass threaded inserts had been installed such that the sensor's mounting plate holes would not line up. I had to use a Dremel tool to enlarge the sensor's holes to allow me to attach it to the new Volant air tube. These issues were manufacturing defects not caught by Quality Control (if, indeed there is any). For what one of these kits costs, it should fit right out of the box. Buyer Beware - Bubba drilling holes on the factory floor may be suffering from a hangover. If "used" there is no recourse.

The hole for the air sensor is tool small and makes my check engine light come on often. Had to Dremel the hole bigger for the sensor

Good product, time will tell as far as the mileage and performance. I small issue with the mass air flow sensor, but as soon as I remedy that I will amend the review.

Defective part causes engine light alert from air-flow sensor. Volant aware of the issue, but does not notify consumer. Still selling with no replacement part. Going on 5 weeks, called Volant second time with replacement part still not at production and no ETA.

I bought this product on Auto Everything because they gave me a better deal than all the prices on Amazon. The installation took about 45 min on my 2014 FJ. There is a removable metal plate that covers the air box and when that plate is on it feels like the intake is not breathing well. My check engine and traction lights come on. When I remove the plate the lights turn off and everything is fine. I don’t mind the plate being off because I get a much more aggressive sound!
