I have a scraped steel trailer bed with surface about 6 x 18 feet I want to coat, then paint.** A: I used 1/2 of the gallon on a 9x8 steel flatbed. 2 coats. Worked amazing. It converts whatever rust it touches to a back hard substance. If you have rust scale it soaks it up and turns hard. **Q: What is the shelf life of this product once opened?** A: There is a product called "End All Rust that I purchased in 2003 and just used it again this year 2023. A little clabber at the bottom of the jug, but it did a great job! Still working after 20 years. I can't see why this FDC wouldn't last at least half of those years. Rust converter is rust converter. **Q: Can I apply this to a wet surface?** A: It applies just fine on a wet surface, but you're diluting it. That said, as always, you would probably have better results on a prepped surface. **Q: If used on frame does it have to be painted?** A: No it doesn't.
