Big Things come in Small Packages!! And how convenient it is!
I bought this Winsor & Newton Cotman Pocket Plus watercolor set for my trip to thailand for some plein air plainting. It can promptly and on time, each pan was individually wrapped, and the name of the color written on the side of each pan, for when refilling or replacing the pans when the color runs out. The set comes with two cadmium yellows one in a pale hue, two reds on cadmium pale hue one alizarin, two blues one ultramarine one cobalt, two greens one viridian one sap, three earth tones in yellow ochre, burnt sienna and burnt umber, and lastly a chinese white. There isn't a really true red in this set (wouldve preferred a cadmium red over the pale hue), but if you mix the red pale hue with the alizarin you get a nice red. It also comes with a small watercolor brush for sketching and painting. It isn't something I would only use, I tend to bring a few of my favorite brushes, with sponges and small water-containers in their own little bag, but if need be i can just carry this around and be set. The pans are four per little case and there are three cases in the set. They can be pulled out easily and rearranged if needed. While doing some color swatches of the 12 half pans, this quality is about equal to my Sakura Koi Field Sketch Set with 24 wells. I am satisfied with the pigmentation, the colors come out bright, and have a smooth gradient with no chalky finish, as to be expected with these types of paints. I opted for this set for its portability and compact size, half the size of my Sakura Koi Set (half the colors but they have the 12 main ones that cover spectrum quite well). I've included a photo of the swatches as well as some smaller swatches of mixing the complementary colors. As well as a size comparison between the two sets. The set comes with two palettes that can be taken out, the first one can connect to the bottom, the other can remain in the lid, but if you requite more mixing room it is removable, the only issue is it is a little difficult to take out at first, but I am sure with some love over time it will be easier. This brings me to one of the few issues I have with this palette, it does not lay flat as depicted on the box, it tends to stay up which makes the palette fall over if left alone, This is not a big issue for me, seeing with time Im sure the plastic will wear down or if i take a blade to it and create a grove for it to lay flat.Over all this set is exactly what I was looking for, compact size, good amount of mixing wells/space and pigmentation. The only con I have about this set is that the pans although will not fall out, do slide and tip slightly do to the space between each. I am sure sticking a tiny bit of sponge between them or a dot of hot glue under the pans would be a simple fix.**Note** The Ruler depicted is in CM **

Tiny but Mighty - Exceptional Paints in a Compact Set!
We love this set of paints from Winsor and Newton! They are beautifully made and truly can fit in your pocket or tiny backpack when traveling. All you need to add is your canvas, a few brushes and some water. Each pan is individually wrapped and the names of each color is written on the outside of each pan. It also includes a brush and 2 palettes that can be removed from the box.The 12 colors included in this set are Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue, Cadmium Yellow Hue, Cadmium Red Pale Hue, Alizarin Crimson Hue, Ultramarine, Cobalt Blue Hue, Viridian Hue, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Chinese White.Pros1. Compact and highly portable.2.. Highly pigmented colors with a wide range of colors.3. Paint color names are written on the outside of the pans, for easy refilling.Cons1. Winsor and Newton paints are no longer manufactured in England, they are now made in China.2. No true red, such as Cadimum Red.You will need to buy one for each of your kids!As a classroom teacher, and mother of school aged children, I highly recommend this set for your budding artist to take along when travelling and for outdoor use.Grade A+

Cute and Compact
New paint set. Wanted to try some of the more expensive brands. There are 2 pallet trays. One can be attached at the top or bottom, whatever you prefer. As some have mentioned, the pallet will only open flat if you remove the rubbery hinge. Pretty cool and compact. Even has a tiny brush. Including my hand for scale.

Wrong colors in the description
Love these colors so far and love the pocket size holder, but the pictures and product description lists Burnt Umber, there isn't burnt umber in this kit, sad, I ordered separately.

Great for beginners
I love this little set. It comes with all the essentials and it was especially helpful for me because I was a beginner when I bought it and I chose the pallet because of financial constraints (couldn't afford a bigger, more expensive pallet at the time). It ended up being ideal because it was just the basics and I didn't get overwhelmed with a bunch of colors all at once. It was also helpful because less colors also meant teaching myself the color wheel and learning how to mix different colors. This, in turn, made it where I got a much better understanding of how watercolor behaves and the basic/foundational stuff in painting. I'm by no means an expert in water coloring but I'd recommend this pallet to anyone just starting out!

While this was sorta annoying to set up at first (have to unwrap and ...
I got the watercolor pocket plus set, which includes 12 mini paints, with each set of 4 being removable via a plastic tray that hooks into the case. While this was sorta annoying to set up at first (have to unwrap and balance in 12 little thingies) and the case for me at least doesn't stay open well without tape (immediately knocked out all the paints after unwrapping and setting them all trying to use a rubber band to keep it open - this was a bad idea, hah), I LOVE this little set and it is perfect for me. The quality of paints is excellent, the two trays are small and convenient, perfect for my limited space, and I love the little paint brush it came with. The case & trays snap back into place oh so nicely, so the only thing that moves at all is the paint trays within their little homes. It is very convenient and will be oh-so-portable portable once I have painted a few more "masterpieces" and the paints are glued into their pans.If I find myself wanting a different or other pocket set I will certainly buy within this line. In addition any actual paint pans and probably brushes are going to be the cotman line. For the price it is really so nice. I am a hobbyist getting back to my previous passions and have worked with garbage quality paints to the highest end options and as I work my way back up from a beginner, I feel for watercolors these will likely meet my needs indefinitely.
