Heading off Conflict Within the Church
Why is it that when one thinks of church they typically think of a safe haven, free from strife and problems. Anyone that has spent any time around a church organization knows the church has problems and issues just like any other business entity does, sometimes they are of a far more personal nature. Ken Gangel's book Communication and Conflict Management in Churches and Christian Organizations was a required text in a Masters of Theology course. In his book he deals with the very real and often harsh problems that can be found in a church environment, examples that include real life scenarios that people can easily relate to as they move through the book.I have been through a number of Conflict Management courses during my career in Corporate America and was definitely able to tie prior training and personal experiences into what Gangel relates in this book as well as bring those experiences from life into the classroom. This book is yet another resource that will sit worthily on my shelf of references and one that I would highly recommend to any pastor, church leadership, and volunteer coordinators alike.

Good, helpful
Good book! Enjoyed the principles of communication along with the focus on scripture. A little technical in communications science at times but a helpful book overall.

Great book, good examples
This was required reading in my Masters class. It is a good source book and one I will keep in my library. The author gives examples that are very real and how to deal with conflicts in the church.

Great resource for communication and conflict management
I thought the book we extensive. It was just what we needed for our textbook for our bible school. I needed a conflict managment and communication book that would be as exhaustive as possible on the subject. Solid research and good stuff. Don't be deterred by the first 3 chapters. Leg-work was being done to set up for the rest of the book. The whole book is not about sociology. Just had to hit on that the first three chapters to create an understanding of subject matter.

Thought provoking
Good review. Examiners communication on different levels and and light of different power basis. Acknowledges the emotional variable as well as nonverbal. Great for provoking thoughtful conversation.
