Good quality, expensive for what it is but that's why we got it on sale. The function works better than I expected and my son loves it

I demonstrated this one time for my 2.5 year old and he instantly understood and started playing with it. My 6 year old also immediately figured it out and enjoyed it. This is not our first crane for our wooden train set so the idea of lifting cargo was already there. However most crane use a string that is cranked or use a manual lever to get the magnet onto the cargo. This crane is different in that you turn a knop to lower and lift the crane arm, and when it is lifted high enough, another part of the crane will remove the cargo onto the loading platform. This process can easily be performed one-handed which makes it novel and fun. There is a second step, where you lift the loading platform to slide the cargo onto the truck (or another train car if you set it up that way), and this action is also rather smooth. We have multiple brands of wooden trains mixed together. I’ve often wondered if Brio is worth the extra cost. For this little crane, I’d say it was absolutely worth it. It is unique, feels very durable and well crafted, and was immediately engaging for my children.

While my grandson is a little young to understand all of its features, he still LOVES this Brio Crane! He's been playing with Brio trains for a while now and loves them. His Dad (my son) recommended that I get his son this as an add-on to his increasingly expanding train set. It was a huge success and I am sure than in no time, he'll completely understand how it works. Already, he understands how to lift the load out of the truck and drop it back into the truck later, though he doesn't quite get how to use the knobs that turn to lift up the crane. He lifts it manually. He is mesmerized by Brio trains and can play with them for an hour or more before losing interest or wanting 1to play with his other toys!

My 2.5 year old is a bit young to appreciate how the crane works. But he sure loves taking the cargo off the Brio trains and tries to put them back on (or more often I'm the one who puts them back together). I was happy to find a nice addition to his big train set.

So well made, tons of fun! We got this for our 3 yr old and he loves it! But there were many adults around who enjoyed playing with it too. The quality is outstanding and well worth the price to add to an existing set. We have very generic wood tracks and this fit perfectly.

My 7 year grandson has been playing with this since Christmas, a month ago. He has figured out several ways to use it with his Thomas train set. No batteries needed. He loves it.

When I received my product it had yellow/orange stains all over the base of the wooden base that the crane sits on. There were also two stains on the top where the track to "load" the trains were. Most probably would keep the product but I'm trying to build a heirloom collection that my kids can pass to their kids and so on. I do NOT want to start that with purchasing defective goods. Have to say I'm pretty disappointed that Brio who advertise that they painstakingly select wood that is blemish free and use European beech wood would make a product such as this. The other wood pieces were so perfect that I'm holding out hope for the replacement that will be here soon. This was my very first Brio product, remains to be seen if it will also be my last. Update: Nov 3, 2015 - Got my 2nd Brio package. Awesome customer service on Amazon's end to send me the replacement product within 24 hours of placing my replacement request. This second wood base also has a stain but only one. I tried looking it up to see if this was common in wood products and am not seeing anything that says that way. I am going to keep this second one since other than the stain the toy is really well made. No splintering in the little bit of wood I have, plastic is smooth with no pointy odds and ends poking out. The magnets work and really the crane is pure genius how it works. I might try a wood cleaner to get the stain off and post on that later if that works. Updated to 4 starts, docked 1 for the stain.
