Couldn't find the jars of sauce at my local Korean mart - only bags that would make a large amount of sauce so I found this one recommended by a blog. Jar was intact however during shipping, either the cap loosened or increased pressure did cause a little leakage around the cap so the jar and packing material were all sticky. Pretty good flavor, on the saltier side.

One star for container not ship-worthy. Arrived at our house in the mountains slowly spewing bean paste all over. It looks like an embedded air bubble in the paste expanded and broke the rather flimsy plastic lid. The glass must have been pretty tough, as it did not break despite no padding in the delivery box. The only good news was that it cleaned up fairly easily from my hands and the plastic wrapping of another item. Mostly came off the book that was not wrapped, but my wife can finish cleaning that as a reward for buying bean paste on line.

I adore this product! At first I was hesitant because I knew you couldn't just add this paste to the noodles and be done. You actually have to pretty much assemble the required ingredients in order to achieve that yummy sauce. I am so thankful to a few of the reviewers here who shared their recipe. I tweaked and made it my own. Cooked 1 tbs of this paste with oil. Then added 3 tbs of brown sugar. 2 cups of chicken stock (I didn't have broth) and a few tsp of cornstarch to thicken it. I actually had a bunch of the already made korean ramen packets but it was the spicy SPICY version. The sauce that came with it tasted nothing like the black-bean sauce I had come to love. It was just way too hot for me. So I made this sauce and added it to the ramen noodles instead along with cubed potatoes and it was the yummiest meal! Much better than the other premade packets you can buy. Don't be afraid of this paste. If I can make it, you def can!

I love making home made jjang, and this sauce last me so many recipes. I am still using it so the value for the use is great.

I don't know if they changed the ingredients. We used to get the exact brand and exact flavor locally, until the stores stopped stocking these. DEFINITELY, not the same taste of what we were used to eating.
