Remarkable!
I first read this book when I was in high school, but did not, I realize now, fully understand it. It is a remarkable mystery with a surprising but satisfying denouement. But more than that it is the full portrait of a marriage that has survived years of events, both good and bad. Read it and marvel at Christie 'S extensive and deep understanding of human nature in the 20th century.

Late Christie, Even-Paced Mystery
By the Pricking of My Thumbs (1968) marks the penultimate appearance of Tommy and Tuppence Beresford. It is one of the novels which I return to periodically because I find that the novel continues to provide a certain amount of entertainment. In By the Pricking of My Thumbs, we have less the espionage element that might have characterized their earlier adventures, The Secret Adversary, N or M?, or even possibly Partners in Crime. Instead, this novel represents a novel later in Christie's career in which she began to explore alternative reasons for murder. I am reminded of the sort of ingenuity that Christie utilizes in a late Miss Marple Mystery, Nemesis, written around this same period. The reader should be aware that this even-paced thriller belongs to the brand of mystery in which the reader will have to sit back and enjoy Tuppence's wanderings with only a mysterious painting as an initial clue. The couple is older and their concerns focus little on employment but on the reasons why a woman has disappeared from a nursing home.I recommend By the Pricking of Thumbs to people who are looking for something a little different from the genre which ordinarily belongs to Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. While By the Pricking of My Thumbs is not as odd as Endless Night, I would place this work among her works which emphasize subtle yet insistent menace, drawing on the ordinary as a means of hiding past crimes.

Great book!
The plot was intriguing, characters were very believable. Ending was great! I love Agatha Christie, first author of "cozy mysteries" but superb novels.

Loved it...
"By the Pricking of My Thumbs" by Agatha Christie is a pure joy to read, it's marvelously devious narrative is immersive, the richly developed characters quirky and original, and the atmospheric backdrops place you in the community where the story takes place. It's no wonder that Agatha Christie's stories have sold over 2 billion copies. This is the first Tommy and Tuppence series book I have read and it not only met but exceeded my lofty expectations, it's brilliant. For lovers of mystery this is a must read so pull up a chair, get comfortable, and prepare yourself for a pure unadulterated reading experience...5 stars!!!!!

Enjoyable Read; Ending Was A Bit Too Dark For Me
This book was delivered to my Kindle with no issues. The storyline was very captivating and enjoyable to read. Each character was easy to follow and most of them were interesting. I definitely was not expecting the ending to unfold in the way it did. The reason I rated the book only three stars was because of the resolution. It was very dark and a bit creepy; just not the type of ending I enjoy. I am a fan of light, happy endings and prefer the books with nice resolutions. So, if you like Christie's darker books then this one is for you. If you are an extreme Christie fan as I am, I suppose you will read this one eventually. But, if you are a first time Christie reader I would not start with this one because many of her books are far better to read than it.

Great Story / Unnecessary Risks
The story was fascinating as Christie often is. I loved the puzzle aspect and did not suspect the right person. Places and people so well described, and like life, many uncertainties in the story. The one thing the bothered me is the unnecessary risks taken by Tuppence. I think she could have taken more precautions and still help catch the perpetrator(s), if only for the peace of mind of her husband. All in all, a great read!

Might Be the Best of the Series
I always enjoyed Agatha Christie's Tommy and Tuppence series but this book may be the most enjoyable. I didn't see the ending coming in this story, which was exceptionally constructed.

Dentro do esperado

A conseiller.

Classic Christie
Tommy and Tuppence are a bit different from A.C. other protagonists, and therefore the stories including them are not quite the same as all the Poirot and Miss Marple books. That, in my humble opinion, makes them perfect for a nice return to classic crime now and then.
