Know your camera’s capabilities
Doesn’t have contacts so everything’s manual. Heavy so have a rock solid tripod. It takes great pics if you know how to set up your camera manually.

Get this only if your Manual Shooting prowess is superb
Great Telephoto Zoom Lens at a fraction of the cost. I took a chance on Vivitar because of my history with its other superb camera accessories (power grip, camera battery, etc). Here are things to consider before purchasing this:(1) Camera-Lens combo must be very still to prevent camera/photo shake.(2) You have to be able to manually control your shutter speed and ISO to get the perfect picture.(3) Your post skills must be top-notch as you can see from the before picture and after pictures. Before pictures can be quite discouraging.(4) The lens is very heavy so you might wanna consider getting a very very sturdy tripod standGood luck and happy picture taking!Picture stat: Shutter speed 1/100, ISO 320 taken at 4PMNB: These images where taking inside a building through 2 very thick glass windows. I'll be retaking these pictures outside, hoping for a sharper image.- @HadorbeeTV

Vivatar 650-13000 f8-16
Like the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. Do not expect this to preform like a Nikkor or Cannon lenses. You can get pretty good results with this though. A SOLID tripod is a must. The mount on the lens for a tripod is flawed. If you look at it close you will see only one of the rings around the lens tightens up. The second ring just sits there. To solve it get a lens support bracket for the tripod. The other problem is focusing. The focus is very course. Its like 1/4 turn from min.to max. But for what you get its ok for a manual lens it this price range.

but I needed something to be able to take some good quality pictures while we are on an Alaskan cruise
I was on the fence about buying this lens, but I needed something to be able to take some good quality pictures while we are on an Alaskan cruise. I searched high and low and this was one of the best options that I had for my Nikon D200 most of them only went to 300mm. Yes it is manual all the way, yes it is less than $200 (at the time of me writing this) and it is indeed a good solid buy. It is DEFINITELY too large for everyday use but for specific uses it is absolutely amazing. I love it and do not regret my decision one bit. No it does not come with all the frills of a lens that you will pay WELL over $1k for but it does what it advertises that it does, and does it well. I would gladly buy this item again, and am extremely happy that I took the chance on it!

Focus? Do not touch it!!
I purchased the lens for: Nikon Z7, this lens plus x2 enlarger, filled the Z7 frame with full moon. Yes 2600mm. I used one tripod for the lens, plus a second tripod on the camera for stability. It worked as planned, I got a few seconds to take each photo before the full moon moved off the Z7 frame. Tricky... yes, each time I filled the Z7 frame, except...I **WANTED** manual controls on everything. Everything is as advertised. The biggest issue is focus. Just touching the ring (never mind turn it a bit) changes the focus, and a micro-turn sends it focusing too far forward or too far back. Too late to return it, but disappointing photos. Same results with bald eagle in correct distance for the 2600 mm, and for the 1300 mm setup. Focus is a nightmare.Too late to return, I will use the lens as an anchor for the jest ski, because the anchor I already have is too light.

Took good pictures on manual setting
It's heavy, had to buy sturdier tripod or it would have fallen over

Could have used a User Manual
I like this lens, but I wish it had come better a user manual. Took us awhile to figure out how to expand it. Also, I wish it were auto-focus. Still, it is a great product and I'm very happy with it.

Good Aervice
The Lense was sent quickly and was as advertised. After several days of use the lense was jut too big for me to handle in a crowd. The pictures taken with the lense were sharp, but the nikon back was not up to using the automation.
