Wisdom Panel Essential Dog DNA Test, 430+ Breeds & 30 Health Tests

My husband and I bought this test on a whim after adopting a "Mix breed, Large" puppy from our local shelter. We received emails every step of the way (registering the kit, when it was received at the lab, and when results were available). The results came back very quickly. To our surprise, our shelter puppy came back 70% one primary breed with other variants mixed in. The report is in a very user friendly, readable format and offers a wealth of information about each breed identified. It also identified her relatives from their DNA bank which was fun looking through. I shared the results with our vet at her first appointment and was reassured when she said this brand is known for being one of the most accurate you can buy. Based on this experience, we will be buying 2 more tests (1 for each of our other dogs) to see what we can learn about them.

We got this for our staffy rescue. We got him at (maybe?) a year old from the local animal shelter. The results were pretty quick and test was easy. Sure enough, results came back 65% staffy, 35% pitbull terrier and 2% boxer. It was cool to see his relatives (and we do get an email when new relatives are identified - although, there's no way to sort the results, so you don't know which ones are the "new" relatives). There's even a way to contact (anonymously) other relatives to share your dog pics, etc. I got in touch with two relatives and they provided pics of their dogs which were cousins to mine. It's kind of fun to see! That being said, it's not cheap. I bought it for about $60 on a special and now it's twice that. We do have another rescue that we'd love to get a kit for, but the cost of the kits now is a little prohibiting. I do like that they also provide optional behavior research studies you can do to tell them more about your pet -- like, does he burrow in blankets (absolutely!), does he dislike the rain (YEP!), etc. It helps them with research and building pet profiles (and what the dog breed is about, in general). Pretty in-depth. They did have a study you could join for additional rewards but the link didn't work for me. All in all, glad I got it - and glad I got it at the price that I paid! If you're interested in what your dog's DNA is all about, I'd recommend this. I also purchased the basic kit -- it provided plenty of information. I didn't have any of the add-on's that they offer.

I lost my five to old age. Despite developing health issues I was able to bring them their full life expectancy of their breed. I did not intend to buy anymore as I still had one 16 year old cat left. Never say never. I intended to only foster old pets no one wanted so they could be loved until they passed, plus I was hoping my love would not cause separation anxiety in an older fur baby. That was until my granddaughter needed/wanted me to foster a stray from her neighborhood. Buddy came to me flea & tick ridden with mats all over his body in every conceivable area. First foster, first foster fail. Vet estimated 6 months old. Not neutered. First came the flea bath, the groomers, then after getting chip info and current owner refusal to pick him up, (I was hesitant to return him due to the condition he came to me in), I was actually relieved they didn’t pick him up. Next to have him neutered. That left “who” he was and why he kept eating everything he could get his teeth on whether it was food or not. That is when I discovered Wisdom Panel after an internet search. They have a complete program assessment and while certainly not the cheapest DNA result company, their credentials were exactly what I was searching for and the cost reasonable too. I didn’t need a thoroughbred history to be absolutely in love but I did need some DNA history to anticipate future illnesses, especially since two visits to the emergency clinic for accidental ingestion of foreign objects was putting $1500 in the hole already. I was excited when I found the Wisdom DNA test and couldn’t wait for the results. Several people including our vet had given us an idea of his heritage and sure enough the reason I’ve been using my vet for the last 25 years is her expertise and knowledge. She was right on with my little stray mutt. It can’t give you the exact age, but the Wisdm Panel can you just about all the knowledge you need to get the right treatment and to prepare yourself for future life expectancy of health issues. Plus they give you discounts on more detailed information you may want or need. The initial tests were enough for me and what I was wanting to know. This is a good company with a detailed report that more than covers the costs and gives you reliable information about your fur baby. Don’t hesitate to order your test and be the wiser on your stray or adopted fur baby. It’s really easy to do. The results are fast and they keep you notified all the way through. I highly recommend the company, the test and the procedure. Happy knowledge!

This was truly amazing! Fast results, very accurate. Now we know why she has some different personalities. We are so impressed!

Easy to use with clear instructions, didn’t take long for the results. However, I do not think the results are accurate at all. My dog is a rescue, and we know for a fact that she was born to a Dashound mom at a shelter, she was the only one in the litter born white and that did not look like the other littermates (weiner dogs). Her DNA came back with zero Dashound DNA??? she is also quite clearly a corgi mix, I will be doing the blood work via the vet to check her actual DNA as this seems like a waste of money.

There was so much information included that I didn't expect. They knew what color he was and he ended up being 100% French Bulldog. There must be some Chihuahua back in his lineage somewhere but it's so far back that he is considered to be for the last four generations all French Bulldogs in his family. I was very happy with the results though I had many know-it-all people in my French Bulldog Facebook group that just told me that I had a mutt and to get over it because of wisdom panel DNA tests are not 100% accurate. I don't care what they say. I don't believe it because I didn't add a photo of my dog until after I received my results. My dog is a French Bulldog according to his results so that is what I'm going to say he is and those Health traits that go along with French Bulldog are also what I'm going to go along with. He is my baby and he is insured because these results still said he could get ivdd and need a wheelchair at any point in his life. It could happen at one year old or 7 years old. But thanks to these results I am able to be aware of what to look out for.

I have to say we were skeptical . But we had just found a stray and he had no owners. He became Crash our newest family member. But we were going rounds on what kind of dog he was lol. We all had our opinions and the vet just said a mutt. We wanted to know more though. This was a great test. So easy to use . You swab your dogs mouth, thats it . And in 2-3 weeks max we know what types of dogs he is a mix of and some behaviors he may display( actually already was) and even some medical issues we should be aware of for his future. I could not ask for more. A vet would have charged a few hundred $$$$$$$) to do this i am sure if they even would. We found out our little man is a mix of husky, cattle dog border collie and shiba inu. And it totally fits don't you think? You can get more info for an added cost but this is what we needed. The test functions as made which you will be pleased about. Some say pricey but when you think about what they are actually doing, it is a value. DNA extraction and mapping is not a quick easy task . The test will not upset you furry baby either. Very simple and quick. They have the hardest part .you swab your pet , thats it. I would say it could not be more dog friendly. You will not be disappointed , we are not . Update July 2026 We found another stray ;Comet :) and he also got to take the swab dna test . It is very good that we did this . Comet’s test came back with a disorder where he is allergic to an ingredient in heart worm medication . It could have been dangerous for us not to know this . And since he was a stray we would not have . Right there it may have saved a life. How could you ever ask for more than that. We have been contacted by possible and definite relatives of Crash our dog as well . You can opt in or out of this option . It will give a percentage of relation the higher the number the “ closer” the relative and match. It is a wonderful service that allows us to hello the status we find even more . If they are not kept by us personally; they are trained and taught basic dog indoor routines and taken to local no kill shelters for adoption . After doing this for over 20 years , I have to say I really wish they started this years and years and years ago . Crash is on the left Comet the right and they are safe today because of these tests 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🥰

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five‑Star Review Title: Fascinating, accurate insights into my pup’s DNA — worth every penny! Review: I recently tested my rescue dog with the Wisdom Panel Essential Dog DNA Kit, and I’m thrilled with the results. The at-home cheek-swab collection was easy (they include two swabs), and the kit comes with clear instructions and free USPS return shipping . Within just three weeks I received a detailed report. What I loved: • Breed breakdown down to 1%—the kit screens for over 365 breeds, which helped clarify some unexpected traits in my dog . • Health screening—tested for 25+ genetic conditions including MDR1 and IVDD, giving me actionable info to discuss with my vet . • Traits & behavior insights—learned why my dog has that blue eye and a knack for digging . • Relative finder—I discovered several long-lost fur-family cousins through their vast 4+ million pet database . • Online dashboard & vet consult—the portal is intuitive, results arrived fast, and you get a free phone call with a veterinarian if any health flags appear . Accuracy & credibility: Independent reviews rate Wisdom Panel at ~90%+ accuracy for crosses and 98%+ for purebreds . DNA Weekly even named the Essential kit “best overall” in its 2025 roundup . “The results were comprehensive, and it was a good value for its price point.” A few things to keep in mind: • Like any DNA test, multi-generation mixes and very low-percentage breeds may show lower confidence results . • It doesn’t include maternal/paternal line mapping or expansive health screens — for those, consider the Premium option or Embark’s more detailed kits . ⸻ Bottom line: If you want a clear, engaging, and reliable look at your dog’s ancestry, health markers, traits, and even relatives—all at a great price—the Wisdom Panel Essential Kit is exceptional. Highly recommend!

Was curious about the legitimacy of the test. We knew the mom but not the dad. We also knew he had a Merle gene. The results were bang on! Down to the gene for his short legs lol. Very impressed!

El producto debe regresarse con una guía prepagada en USPS, no hay forma de usarla en México

Waited weeks and got dubious results. Requested re-test, however same test reviewed (after 2 week wait) and deemed accurate, even though looks like random selection, rather than valid test. Huge waste of money
