My Soft-and-Cuddly Animals (BabyBasics)

Don't be misled by the title - there is nothing cuddly about this book. It's essentially a board book with fake fur glued onto shapes of a few animals. I get that the black and white color in addition to the various textiles used is supposed to promote tactile development but this is way overpriced for what it is. The fake fur also sheds everywhere, all over the pages. I have had the book a couple of weeks now and have showed it to my baby maybe a thrice and the furred animals are already developing bald spots.

Great book for my 14-month-old. She loves feeling all the different animals and fabrics.

This book was great for my LO. She was really attentive to each page as we looked at the animals.

I received this book from the publisher for my review. I first reviewed this book with my 8 month old great-grandson who apparently preferred the wolf to all of the other animals in the book. I think the longer hair on the wolf was his main attraction. I did like the book but wish that it had been in color other than black and white. I believe it would have been more appealing to little people. It was nice to see some animals there that you don't usually see like the mole and the bat. Having the wolf on the page next to the sheep might be a little bit disconcerting to young readers, too. I did like the sturdiness of the book and the feel of the animals. I believe that we will get a lot of pleasure from having this book and hopefully having some good conversations as we read this book. I believe that My Soft and Cuddly Animals will stand the test of time in our household.

I don't know why this book isn't marketed on here for babies, I bought it in a bookstore in the newborn/baby section. The high contrast b/w is good for babies' developing visual system, and my daughter LOVED this book from like 2 mos to now 2.5 years. It's clearly done by an artist, has an interesting, pleasant style, and not your typical junky "here's a straightforward picture of a dog" kind of baby book, which we really appreciated. The texture parts are not like real fur or anything but it's of similar quality to any other touch and feel book, and my dtr really liked that aspect. I buy this for all my friends with newborns, and highly recommend it.

The book has sweet, high contrast and fuzzy textured images. I used it most when my baby was very small and would just leave it open when she was laying down. Now that she is big enough to grab things, the texture will be a nice surprise.

Love the high contrast which is excellent for newborns. The different animals have different textures which is great for older infants. My son loves to stare at the different pages.
