Gracias a Winn-Dixie / Because of Winn-Dixie (Spanish Edition)

As an ESL coordinator I am always trying to get our newly arrived students to read more. I purchase these type of books to instill a love of reading into their lives. As they become more proficient in their reading, I use the same books, in English, to enhance their learning of the English language. Many of my students ask to borrow these books to take home to read to their younger siblings, and Parents.

I have read this book with my son twice. I also got it in Spanish for my mother. He loved it too.

Read this to my 3rd graders EVERY year. Had to buy in Spanish bc I almost always have a student that recently came from Mexico.

A big, ugly, suffering dog with astern sense of humor. A dog she names Winn-dixie, because of Winn-dixie Opal wants to learn everything about her mother. So her dad tells Opal everything she wants to learn about her mother. So you can read the book to find out what happens to Opal and her father next.I would recommend this book to fifth graders because it is a good fit reading book. And I would recommend this book to fourth graders as a whole class book because I think they would like the book. Also to kids who like books about friendship and books by Kate Di Camilo.That's why I recommend the book Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate Di Camilo.

Venía de leer otro libro de la autora (El prodigioso viaje de Edward Tulane) que me había parecido muy triste y aunque era un buen libro, me había resultado algo espes. Y esperaba un dramón parecido, en lugar de eso "Gracias a Winn-Dixie" es un libro que desborda buenas vibraciones. Muchas veces había pensado en darle una oportunidad a este clásico de la literatura juvenil pero cada vez que leía de que trataba no veía nada interesante: "una niña que acaba de llegar a un pueblo nuevo en el que no tiene amigos adopta un perro callejero y este le ayuda a conocer gente". Yo pensaba "tiene que haber algo más, no puede haber tenido éxito sólo con eso", pero el libro trata de eso exactamente y aún así es muy agradable de leer. Los personajes que va conociendo la protagonista le van contando episodios de sus vidas: algunos muy graciosos, otros tristes, otros en un momento clave de la Historia. El libro deja un buen sabor de boca a pesar de que es una historia cotidiana, normalmente me atrae que suceda algo chocante o que la historia de un giro, pero aquí disfrutas junto a la protagonista que pasa a ser como una amiga de aventuras durante la hora y media que tardas en leerlo.No es un libro imprescindible pero si muy recomendable.

The book is great however I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize the book was in Spanish 😆 but that's my fault.
