Ancient Egyptian Magic

Arrived Quickly & in Excellent condition for age of book (from 1980). No tears, folded pages or writing/highlighting. Library copy with some gluing to original cover but in otherwise fantastic shape. Love this book, even had an authentic 1980 smell ;). I would buy from this seller again.Very good information on Ancient Egyptian Magic. Love the author. Great Speaker on The Great Courses! Some info is dated as more has been discovered since then but great foundational work.

Now this is a wonderful book as a practitioner who has been studying and practicing for over 30+ years this book is one I highly recommend. no mystical charms or magic potions and an other BS just hard facts. that will help someone understand. if your starting in the studies of Egyptology. this is a very good book to have. Also if you can get it Prof. Faulkner's coffin text. Both of them are a must.

This is a fabulous and accessible book for anyone. I read this for an upper division ancient religions anthropology class, and I loved it! It is written as an in-depth introductory text, and is fun to read. I highly recommend this book to anyone remotely interested in Egyptology: there is everything from the dirt on the excavation of Tut's tomb to a section of fun spells to cure various maladies.

I got this to read because I am very interested in Egyptology. The book was interesting and enjoyable to read.

It's interesting to read what he has to say since I hadn't heard of him up until 5 years ago. Much of what is in here seems verbatim what Budge wrote in his book on the subject, but Brier does flesh out some of the ideas and themes. The pictures, photos and drawings are great.

Professor Brier's book "Ancient Egyptian Magic" is a systematic short course and introduction to the spiritual belief ideas of the ancient people of Egypt. The work is accessible for the general reader. The thoroughness and clarity of Brier's work is helpful to understand the relationship the Egyptians had to the netherworld. Effusive kudos!

Unlike too many books on Egyptian Magic, this is a real history, which (for me) makes it more wonderful and magical than the numerous fantasy takes on the subject, promising ancient magical secrets. (Considering much of modern Egyptian magical practice is based on misunderstandings incorporated into belief before the deciphering of the hieroglyphs)As in other ancient cultures, the magic does not have to be superimposed with modern fantasies - as magic was central to their beliefs and practices.The immense time scale of Egypt and our cultural distance make any popular history problematic, but the author succeeds without ever becoming boring.

I loved this book. Magic to ancient Egyptians is so diverse and ingrained in daily life from medicine to spells. The book also goes into details of different spells. I found it very fascinating.

Very good book! Not simply an ordinary book of spells. Actual magick & history of the ancient egyptians. Incantations, beliefs, spells they all actually practised. Exactly what i was looking for.
