Excellent hardwood end grain cutting board
This is a fantastic hardwood end-grain cutting board. It is large enough for some serious prep work. I love the depth and added height the feet give it. There is no slipping whatsoever, and it looks great. My knives stay sharper longer compared to edge-grain bamboo or poly boards.I've had this board for almost 4 years now, and use it daily. It stays permanently on my countertop and is the go-to board for all non-meat cutting. It has not cracked, even with frequent washing.Note that this board does need proper care, or it will crack. At the same time, if you plan on caring for your board, ignore the reviews of those complaining the board cracked. They didn't care for their boards properly. How to care for your board:1) Do not submerge. Bringing it over to the sink to rinse it off should be fine (I do it almost daily), but never let it soak in water.2) Dry your board thoroughly with a towel if you do wash it.3) Oil! If you fail to oil your board, it will crack, perhaps even within a few months of purchase. You should oil it as soon as you get it, and then oil it every few months or as-needed. Failing to oil your board is the biggest cause of cracking. Don't forget to oil more often in the winter months when the humidity is lower. If you get this board, care for it, and it will be something you enjoy using daily!

rough and hard to wipe
Love the look, but the top is rough and hard to wipe. It takes snags of my rags, so it's full of little hairs. Not nice to wipe at all.

but I was disappointed in the quality
The board arrived slightly warped. I still kept it as it is very slight, but I was disappointed in the quality.

Great Quality and Great Price
The last cutting board I had was not end grain and my knives left gouges in it. Not so with this end grain model. I also love the feet on this board. They make it very stable. Follow the care instructions and oil it once a month to keep it in tip top shape.

Use it every day
Use it every day! I did find that it is works to wet BOTH sides when cleaning. At first, I was just wetting the top while rinsing it off with soap and water, but it started to warp and concave. I then started washing the top, drying it with a towel, and then running water over the bottom side and letting it air dry with the legs facing up. It magically bent back to a perfect flat surface bc the bottom was getting similar moisture exposure as the top. It’s good to know that ALL wood cutting boards bend (even super expensive or thick ones) bc the wood is like a living breathing thing. It absorbs water, so the key is to balance the absorbson.Overall, I love this. My sister has also had her’s for like 10 yrs, so hoping for the same longevity.

Very nice looking, be careful when cleaning it!
The media could not be loaded. The board is gorgeous! It is very gentle on knives being an end-grain board, but one thing that you need to be careful of is refraining from putting water on it at all costs unless you make sure to oil it to death and then apply a layer of beeswax on top of that before you use it at all (this advice is NOT included with the board, but on various butcher block care websites). In my opinion, this is something that should have been done at the factory, or detailed instructions on how to do so should have been included with the board. We made sure not to submerge in water or put into the dishwasher, and even oiled it a couple of times before the first use (apparently not nearly enough). We did clean with a wet sponge trying to get out a stain that appeared on the surface (see video). After the second use, there was a giant bow in the board and a crack that went all the way trough. We looked in the FAQ on the Catskill website on how to correct a warped cutting board by applying dispersed pressure onto one side under a damp cloth (we removed the feet and used books on top of a glass cutting board on top of a damp cloth) and although it flattened out the board, even more cracks appeared! We now have 1/8-1/4"" cracks on three sides that go all the way through the cutting board (see video to see how it looks). To try to prevent more cracks, I put mineral oil on the board and the board soaked up the ENTIRE BOTTLE (8 oz.). I'm now left more confused on how to take care of this fickle cutting board...I sent in for an exchange of this board and will try again, knowing what I know from suggestions in reviews here and on other Catskill blocks on Amazon. I don't mind taking the extra time to care for the product, I just wish it was more clear from the start!!UPDATE 1/14/2014 (added one star): Amazon had replaced our original board no questions asked, even though it may have been our fault for warping the original. Before using this thing, follow my instructions above to keep covering it with food-grade mineral oil until it stops soaking in and then use beeswax (search for John Boos Board Cream) to seal it off. Remember to then apply the John Boos Board Cream or similar to the cutting board OFTEN. This will now last us a very long time..no cracks!Only critical remark, and it may be for wooden cutting boards in general - if you cut something like onion or garlic on it, some odor remains...and no remedy I find online can get it completely out of there. As for my knives, it is so nice!
