SKLZ Hit-A-Way Batting Swing Trainer for Baseball and Softball

My son is 9 yrs old, and like many kids that started a peanut league baseball, we all told them to swing hard. The swing is all over the place, no balance, and back to forward motion, but if they hit the ball at all, we praise them. This training hit-a-way baseball swing CAN help them improve their skill at hitting the baseball at a more consistent, and powerful impact to the baseball. If you take the time to understand what this does, it will teach your kid how to hit the ball harder and have a bigger pop. If they hit this Correctly, the energy the bat will create will force the ball to swing back Fast, and no shaking up or down, just straight back wrapping around the pole. The sound will also have a big pop with a direct straight hit from the bat. If they hit it Wrong, not squaring the bat to the ball, not hitting with a direct force, the ball will naturally try to Pop up or Down, but the cords won't let it, (it shutters instead) thus the energy from the impact of the bat, is wasted and not swing back fast. You can visually see the difference between a great direct hit v.s. to a not so great hit. So once I figured this out , I taught my 9yr old son to understand the difference. He now strives to see that ball swing back faster and straighter. I watch him, and he expresses when he does it right or wrong. That is great , because when he is playing a game, he only has himself to use his inner-coach to use. That to me creates a great lil- baseball player. NOTE: You need to help-- Since my son is at a beginning stage, after he hits it, yhe ball will NOT come back at a fast pace. So once the balls winds up, I force the ball, I swing it back with my hands Hard- so it comes back at a faster pace. This is a Close To View, action pace training, so mentally it helps my son to focus on the ball. The Ball going round and round is not so easy to track, and timing is also developed. My son can hit the ball about 12 times every five minutes, so this also is easier to build repetition faster, and no running for the ball. Like other people that did a review, and have used this for a few years, their kid is now hitting harder so it comes back faster, and they can just do it on their own, without your help. That's my goal with my 9yr old. This will develop good habbits and erase the hold habits of just swinging out of control. This is not to replace the time at a batting cage. But it has improved my sons hitting IQ and improve hitting.

Cons- After a few days of constant use the plastic retainer on the end of the ball broke but it didn't really affect the function.The velcro straps stick out kid the cable when wrapped around a narrow pole.Pros- Those help my son work on timing and hitting the ball with the meat of the bat.A bad hit will wind the cable up slow and a good hit will wrap it up fast.This is a very good tool to have if you want your future star to get proficient and flexible on the plate.

Sweet and simple baseball batting aid!!! Simple set up, keep in mind right side up and keep cables from twisting before attaching final cable. Once set up, you can adjust height, high or low but this does take some muscle, cable is heavy duty and very tough. So far so good. Follow directions to get started, a solid hit will twist cable around pole and come back. Not so solid hit, ball may not come back. Very good batting aid to develop rhythm and encourage solid hits. We've used both wood and aluminum and I suggest NOT using a wood bat, it will dent. Aluminum bat has made it through several rounds without denting. If you have an older bat, I suggest using that one at first to develop timing etc... If set up correctly, Swing Trainer works like a charm!!!

This swing trainer has been awesome for getting in a lot of practice fast. I love that my kids can take hundreds of swings an hour without stopping to chase balls, which makes practice way more efficient. It was quick to set up, and it’s helped my kids focus on timing, stance, and swing mechanics without distractions. They feel more confident at the plate after using it regularly. If you want an easy way to practice more and improve your swing in less time, this trainer is a great tool.

My son has the Skilz hit away pole that came with a similar ball and cable bolted to the pole. It was not clear if this would work as a replacement ball and it's not the best solution if you want to use the poles mounting system instead of the velcro. It will work but it requires disassembly and a box end wrench to reach inside the top of the pole to remove the mounting points. Once mounted you have to cut the velcro off else it gets in the way. The velcro and straps are well made and would be fine to mount to most poles. The cable unfortunately has already gotten severe wear from its first use or was damaged and hidden inside the ball when we got it and it was noticed. The covering on the cable is already split exposing the cable inside. My son reports the swing back is slower than the old ball and cable. It might just need to be broken in and the unused straps fully removed. The ball and cable literally take a beating so I expense these to need replacement on occasion but there was no part number I could find for the exact replacement when you have the portable pole and stand. Pictures show the cables side by side on closed pole and the top of the pole and it's internal nuts securing the top bracket (pole cap needs to be removed) and the bracket at the middle of the pole.

Bought this for my kids and they loved it. Definitely helps with hand eye coordination. Easy install.

Unfortunately, the product did not last long - around 30 minutes before the part holding the ball came apart. We may have been unlucky as this seems to be a popular baseball training tool. Refunded promptly and without problem.

Love this! It isn't too hard to find a pole at a public park to wrap this around. It's fairly easy to change the height it comes at you once attached. I love that it gives me the opportunity to practice switch-hitting. It seems very durable so far. The hardest part (as a user) is that the harder you crush the ball, the faster it comes back at you, so you better be quick back to your batting stance. Would recommend this for any level of play, it's a good workout, and it works great as a de-stresser after a tough day at the office.
