Beautiful Game
This is a wonderful game! The vanilla version is the best version to buy. You get the Knights of the nine dlc with this version. You have to buy the shivering isles dlc separately. Do not buy the game of the year edition of this game. It has a glitch that hinders you from curing vampirism. I love this game. I can't praise it enough. The graphics are beautiful and they still hold up pretty well even today. You will get lost in this world of magic, demons, betrayal, and questing. In this game you journey through the world in search of the amulet of kings. Along the way you get caught up in a cult called the mythic dawn. You end up having to journey into oblivion, which is the equivalent to hell, to stop the gates from opening and save the land from the prince of destruction.

Might be good but not for me,
Pro: Good production value, and almost limitless customization.Cons: Dungeons are repetitive, combat is clunky and unsatisfying,This game might be great for some but for me the extremely high level of customization and open ended story with the "living" world do not make up for the really poor combat system. There is no satisfaction in downing enemies. Also, inventory management is clunky and sifting through containers is tedious. The story does have an epic feel but that is not enough to outweigh the aforementioned negatives. Personally I cannot get past the fact that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion boils down to a poorly designed first person hack/slash/block/spell with nearly uncountable options for character customization. My advice: If you want a game with the same feel then get Fallout 3. All of the upside and very little of the down.

Amazing! Huge! Fun! ....BUT...
this game is alittle different than your standard midevil RPG. However, still fun and plenty to do! I highly recommend the game but with a couple of heads up(s):1. health potions are expensive and rare so... even if you're a warrior you need to use alittle magic to heal or become a chemist and make your own potions. ALL of the midevil RPGs I've play in the past have provided readily available health potions for players but not here.I don't get it?2. As previously stated (in other reviews) the leveling is just plain goofy; in MOST if not ALL midevil RPGs you gain experience by finding treasure and dispatching monsters then;you are signaled to level up so... you are given "10 pts" to distribute between the characters attributes. Naturely, you place the points in the attributes that make the character stronger; for example ...with my mage I distribute 5 pts on "intelligents" and 5 pts on "magic power". Now I'm ready for the next level of monsters.IN THIS GAME the computer distributes the points for you based on your actions while gathering experience; the problem is if your character runs around alot... when you level, points are placed in the "agility" attribute WHICH a mage doesn't need. UGH!!THEN!! to add insult to injury the game designers have the monsters level up with you!! consequently you could become increaseingly underpowered because your experience points went towards skills you don't need. I don't get it?Now it's pretty clear the designers wanted to kept the game interesting/ challenging by having the monsters level up but if they level up proportionally with the character what's the point of having levels? I mean ..part of the fun is struggling to fight through a group of goblins then... after having leveled up a few times coming back to make hay out of them! ....Right?! ....You with me!? LOL!Anywho now that that's off my chest.. the game is fantastic! Fun! amazing! beautiful! especially at night or when it's raining! just amazing! You can even switch between 1st and 3rd person-very cool! some of the side quest storylines are even alittle touching! in short ...They put ALOT of work in this game and it shows.I recommend the game to anyone who enjoys midevil RPGs.Good Luck! and don't run around too much!!

my opinion
i think this is way better than skyrim, this title has better level choices, better scenery, choosing a background for your hero is more emersive, and the caves are actually moee diverse than skyrims by far, more effort was put into this title and only an idiot couldn't tell that, i enjoyed the hours of gameplay this offers, skyrim on the other hand has a short main story, the side quests are pretty short, and there can't be over 100 side missions in skyrim, if so i haven't found more than 90 i believe..... oblivion does live up to the hype for alot of side missions, get this, skyrim is over hyped. just felt i needed to throw a skyrim review in here aswell.

The Best Open World RPG to date
I know a lot of people still go on about the, "Skyrim is better." But for questslines and expansive and emersive enviorments, I would choose Oblivion. On top of it being bright, and appealing to the eyes. (don't get me wrong, I love skyrim, but after seeing grey, snow and that's about it gets boring.) Oblivion's DLCs add twice the content then Skyrim does, Trust me, don't buy this version, buy the game of the year, because Shivering Isles is worth it.This is a classic, and if you're true to the Elder Scrolls series like I am, Give this game a chances, even when the character models are eyeballing and the radiant AI is hilarity assured.
