Fantastic read!
Fantastic read!!! I've had an avid interest in signs and symbols for years. Nigel's book traces back images we take for granted every day to their source. Highly recommended.

Very disappointing read
This book is on itself extremely disappointing, but considering that the author is supposed to be an "authority on ancient belief systems" it actually makes the disappointment unspeakable. Reading this book is like going for vacations to another city or country, paying for a tour from someone and having that person point out all this places and landmarks without explaining their meaning, or origin... In other words their essence. The author mentions a plethora of symbols, glyphs and sigils and most often than not will simply mention or give examples of places or cultures who use them without even touching its meaning or origins. I really thought this book would at least be a more comprehensive guide about symbols.

Highly recommended!
I bought this book amongst others due to the need to learn more about Singns, Sigils, and Seals of the occult. The book here was recommended by a friend so I decided to give it a go.There are two parts to the book, part I is named 'Traditional Glyphs, Signs, Sigils, and Symbols in practice' being a relatively short section covering the Runes, Runic logos and defunct organizations, the pitfalls of Symbology, New names and meanings, and the public use of Glyphs. Part II is where the meat of the book is being called 'A Box of Glyphs' which is a long list of "Primal Signs" like, The Fleur-de-Lys, The Hexflower, The Swastika, The Trefot, Crosses, The Pineapple, The Pentagram, The Checker, The Eye and the Peacock, The Sigils of Mammon, The Serpent and many many more. Each sign has its own section and it's pictoral equivalent, either by photo or drawing with a fully detailed history and explanation of what the sign means. Many of the signs in the book are taken from Europe showing common paterns and designs which adorn many old and ancient buildings, I was amazed at their meanings thinking originally that these were just pretty designes, how wrong was I. Over all this is a very enlightening text that serves as a great resource book for all things esoteric and occult or if you want to learn about all the signs that are around you in daily life, it really is quite an eye opener. Nigel Pennick is probably the best person you could ask for to write such a book, his knowledge on all things esoteric and occult is boudless! This is certainly a fascinating book, by a great author on a great subject, it was recommended to me and now I recommend it to you!
