Sounds like a government cover-up.
This thing is great, I love it. I was always having to tape off the concrete under my clapboards and now I just put in a piece of used cardboard, get the angle set correctly and away I go. To all the people that complained about the cardboard slipping out all I did was Run 2- #6 screws, 3/8 inch long through the two outside paddles and it just pushes right into the cardboard and holds it in place, no problems whatsoever. I forgot to add one thing well two actually. It would have been nice if they'd added a 3ft pool instead of the two foot pole that came with it. If you don't want paint to stick to anything, just squirt some silicone spray on whatever and problem solved. Just don't get the silicone spray anywhere near your bucket of paint.

Works
Worked well for me, glad I made this purchase. Drilled a couple of holes and placed a couple of screws to hold the cardboard in place. Wish I could take credit for that, but I got the idea from a review I read. Would have given it a 5 if it had come with the holes for screws already made.

Painter’s essential spray adjunct
This is an essential tool for any spray man. I like how it is lightweight and of course the ease of switching out cardboard shields. This will definitely be part of my equipment inventory, for my painting business.

Can be improved with a little DIY ingenuity
I painted my garage and cabin this summer with an airless sprayer and the Hyde cardboard clip was quite useful after a couple of modifications. First of all, I found a short adjustable pole to use instead of the short pole that came with the unit as I was using a 16 inch extension on my sprayer most of the time so I wouldn't need to keep moving a ladder. Then I found a couple of large binder clips that I clipped over the cardboard and plastic of the unit on the handle side; which kept the cardboard in place a lot better than the flimsy plastic. I just cut cardboard from some large cartons with a drywall square and a utility knife as I didn't need perfect edges. It saved a lot of masking time overall. The pivot wing nut is too small and the adjustment teeth are quite course. Latex paint sticks to the red plastic quite well and may build up weight over time. It easily paid for itself on one job.

Red plastic holder piece is missing
First time I ordered this, it arrived without the red plastic clip holder. So I returned that one, and order a second one. The second one also arrived minus the red plastic clip holder!!! I then read other's reviews and they are having the same experience. Smh.....poor quality control checks. It's EASY to see a RED HUGE PLASTIC PART MISSING when there are only 3 pieces. Get it together Hyde Tools!!!
