A History of Civilization: Prehistory to the Present (Combined) (9th Edition) Subsequent Edition

The book is marvelous, but I have two critiques: it does not mention Kilmt among the painters, neither does it mention Marcel Proust among the novelists !!

I got the 1984 edition, described in the preface is a "wholesale revision" of the text in a decade. Be that as it may, it has a very special quality which is important in a book: it is readable ! From time to time one picks up a book that is just very readable. Doesn't matter what the subject matter is. The study of history is easy when it is seen as a narrative, in one approach. In another it is easy if it is seen as a picture of interconnected themes which are explained in text that tells you what it is a map of. Complexity of sheer details in history reading entails reading at different levels. So that a narrative, clean, unambiguous for large tracks of history is really a gift. For example WHY did the western and eastern changes separated? a short description would be fine. Details of why is pursuit of a large them.
