There are far worse women in prison and/or concentration camp films about than this but I suppose it is the Nazi experiment angle and the sexual content with the 'beast' that caused problems in the 'video nasty' era. Although the sex is soft core the scenes with the 'beast' do consist of raping women to death, and are not titillating. There is gratuitous nudity, torture and gore, which is interspersed with the usual partisans vs Nazis war film. The war scenes vary in picture quality and some are clearly stock footage and some taken from other films. The dubbing is OK, although sometimes the dialogue is rather hilarious. Probably a film mainly for the collector or someone interested in exploitation films and the 'video nasty' phenomenon.

Makes no sense
The beast in heat..... What a load of rubbish I can't really say much about the story as it is plotless it's based on the german experiment camps in world war 2 anyway a weird looking ape type man is locked in a cage and is injected with some sort of drug which makes him very rampant women are thrown into the cage as the german soldiers watch as he humps them to death there are more scenes in the film which show torture in different ways but the effects are poor and the dubbing is terrible as you see a women getting her fingernails pulled out and all she has to say is stop it your hurting me I mean come on you would be screaming if this was done to you. Some of the film uses what looks like archive footage as you can see by the way the picture quality changes. While this film is still not available in the uk I will never know it makes no sense at all and to be honest films like hostel and saw are alot worse for gore content. Only buy this film if you are like me a collector. You wouldn't believe a few years ago video versions of this film were selling for 500 quid as it was one of the rarest of the video nasties around

Could have been much better
DVD watcher's review in 2013 pretty much sums this film up. The only thing I would add is don't be misled by the film's title. If a Hammer film had the title of Beast in Heat it would be about a beast doing his worst with the unfortunate female victims at almost every opportunity. In this he appears just twice, once early on & then at the end for no more than 5 mins or so each time. In the rest of the film he's not mentioned at all, not even as a deterrent to any women thinking of disobeying the rules or trying to escape. Odd.

It's a Wild, Wild, Wild, Wild Ride!
Did you grow up with movies like "Cannibal Holocaust" and the original "I Spit On Your Grave" and now you think you have seen everything? If so, heads up! There are still a few forgotten gems out there in horror-land. "The Beast In Heat" is one of them, thanks to its wild sexuality, diabolical plot and likable cast. The story is simple: An evil Nazi femme fatale creates a horny Neanderthal whom she keeps in a cage. Whenever the need arises to teach the local villagers a lesson, she sacrifices one of their virginal bimbos to the beast, and slyly watches as he rapes the screaming girls literally to death. Meanwhile, the men of the village are embroiled in a Resistance plot against the Nazi occupation...it's a deadly game of cat-and-mouse, sabotaging the Nazi's efforts from within...but with sinister horndog Captain Hardinghauser hot on their trail, it's just a matter of time before the Resistance fighter's luck runs out! These two unrelated plots finally merge towards the end of the movie, in a sequence which is worth the price of admission all by itself. You will not doze off watching "The Beast In Heat," whose pace is pretty good from opening scene to last. In a world where most thrillers are essentially "women's films," centering around female leads and featuring nearly all-female casts (with the killer providing the one drop of Testosterone in each film), "The Beast In Heat" is a happy exception. There are women and there is female nudity, but there are also men (several of them quite good looking), and you will see everything they have to show from time to time. It's a heady combination and one that give the film a sharp erotic edge. Picture quality is excellent and sound is loud and clear. The sexy, fascinating trailer is included, along with a couple of truly fascinating documentaries. If you are a collector, this film ought not be missing from your collection.

Cheap, ramshackle movie with a good documentary extra feature
This is the cheapest of the cheap of "Ilsa - She Wolf of the SS" imitations. Made on a shoestring budget, "Beast in Heat" hits all the Nazi torture camp cliches'. Evil female Nazi doctor and her deranged experiments, naked women in peril, slobbering, bestial, sex crazed Nazi mutant experiment putting the naked women in peril, ultra cheap looking Nazis with their shaggy 1970s haircuts and sideburns, terrible dubbing, overuse of stock footage that couldn't possibly ever match the actual film. No, this film in no way lives up to it's ballyhoo, although it is more lurid than most. If you have to watch one film in this genre, watch Ilsa. What is good with this release is the accompanying 90 minute documentary "Fascism on a Thread - The Strange Story of Nazisploitation Cinema" which should be released on it's own. Featuring interviews with several Italian directors and producers, along with comments from the great Dyanne Thorne herself, this documentary provides an excellent overview of the Nazisploitation genre. I can't say that it's worth buying this disc just for the documentary, but it's by far the best thing about it.
