Has anyone ever had issues with the ports not working? mine (that i ordered and began using in 01/2022) has 2 usb ports not being recognized

I have not had any problems with mine. I have used all the ports with no issues.

will this docking station support 3 external monitors?

No only two via mini DisplayPort, which is super flakey at best. The newer model at least uses dual USB-C which is an improvement, but it should be just normal HDMI or Displayport. But both models, this one and newer one, only support TWO monitors.

Is this comparable with surface laptop 3? Will it support dual monitors?

I use mine for a Surface Pro 5 and I use it for dual monitors. I would imagine it would support Surface laptop 3.
