No instructions - lots of YouTube time!
Do your homework before starting! THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS AT ALL.After surfing about a dozen videos to find the right information, it went pretty well. However, I ran into one issue where a pin on the plug to the ignition coil bent. So I had power in the wire going to the ignition module plug, but no spark. Looked like a bad coil, but when I went to replace it with an $30 AutoZone part, I discovered the bent pin. I straightened it and carefully plugged it in. Be careful when inserting the plugs on the ignition coil - they bend easily. Also note the 4 wire plugs (base timing shunt and the normal one with the shift kill switch) on the back of the distributor are a little strange. The base timing shunt (loop of white and black wire) needs 12+ volts connected to black wire during base timing. The other plug with the single black wire will kill the ignition when 12+ volts are applied. This single black wire needs to be connected to the normally open (floating) shift kill switch - when the switch closes it applies 12+ volts to interrupt the engine while shifting in and out of gear. The old Thunderbolt system would ground the distributor wire when the switch closed. You need 12+ volts with the EST setup. So, make sure you make this modification and test it by actuating the switch, less you get stuck in gear. :-oSeems to run great, but I hope it holds up .

Worked GOOD on Engine serial number- 3509945 Mercruiser 140 GM 181 I/L4
Worked GOOD on Engine serial number- 3509945Mercruiser 140 GM 181 I/L41972-19783.0 litter engineI say good because the housing to the distributor is rather bulky and the wire harness isn’t helping any on the compactness of the distributor. On my type of engine the fuel pump housing is all up in the way so I had to removed the fuel pump, place this distributor on, replace the fuel pump and hope to God I don’t have to twist the distributor at all, other then that MAN, I recommend this product!!! My boat hasn’t been ran in 3 years, purchased this baby and my boat fired right up. Like I said bulkiness is the only complaint but everything still worked out perfectly.

SIMPLE INSTALL
Just finished install. Fairly simple. Doesn't come with any instructions, but there are several sources online. All Delco EST style systems are basically wired and timed the same way. Engine definitely runs better at idle. Will update after sea trial.Would've given five stars, but I have to question whether the distributor is genuine Delco. Compared to OEM Mercruiser distributor, the body itself is billet and seems to be made much better, but the shaft on these is slightly thinner and the brass shaft guide is much thinner. Gear is spaced with two simple washers instead of shims. No Delco part numbers (or any part numbers) stamped on the body. Same with the coil. Not a deal breaker for me as long as it works. (but the seller does advertise "Genuine Delco Distributor)

Seller Made Things Right, Good Kit
The first kit I received lasted about 30 min running my boat on muffs. I sent it back and the seller sent me a new one. This one seems to be working perfectly. I figured I had just received a defective unit the first time around. This kit is good for upgrading your current ignition system from DDIS or points, to Delco EST. My boat starts faster now then it ever has and idles alot better.
