The Magnificent Makers #1: How to Test a Friendship

Great Book! Recommend
I ordered this when I heard about it on a podcast. The fields of science, engineering, math, etc need to be more inclusive to girls and non-white kids. A book for kids in early elementary school that highlighted girls and non-white kids working together in a science environment. It's not heavy-handed or preachy. It's a fun and well-written book, reminds me a bit of magic school bus with a maker slant. I have already ordered the second book and commend the author for her work and hope she continues down this path.

Great unique book
Our 4 year old twins enjoyed this quite a bit. It's about 10 chapters long so it's good for reading over multiple days. It is modern and speaks of the times we live in as not being your average Dick & Jane bland tale. It has underlying ethics and equality portrayed in a subtle manner while at the same time being exciting. The author apparently had a great idea and ran with it. We will be ordering the other two in the series for certain.

8yo son says these books are "epic" and can't wait for the next book
My 8yo son read books 1 & 2 in a single sitting, told me they were "epic," and asked if it's September yet. As a mom, I am glad to see a STEM book with characters of color. Please write more!

Diversity in science
These books are a good way to get younger kids interested in science. I love that the books use diverse characters and different genders who all love science. In each book the characters take a journey to a magic science lab where they have to solve the science mysteries before returning to class. Cute.

Good Message; Cheaply Printed
This book shared a great message about friendship and kindness (and science). The only thing that could have been better was the quality of the book itself.

I kept this for myself!
I initially bought the book to give as a gift to a friend's daughter. I ended up reading the book and finishing within the hour! Such a great read! I felt like a kid in school, going on an adventure, learning about the ecosystem, while also gaining a valuable lesson about friendships. Needless to say, I had to order another for my friend's daughter. This is a perfect book for parents to read along with their kids. Can't wait to read the others!

Excellent STEM chapter books!
This series is so great! I teach 4th grade, and I heard about the books through an interview with the author on NPR’s Shortwave. The minute I got home I pre-ordered the whole series. Two have come in so far, and they’re amazing. Diverse cast of characters, embedded STEM activities, engaging storyline- in short, perfect for my classroom. Easy readers for 4th, great read-alouds for 2nd. GET THEM!!!
