Perfect for cross-country train trip
I bought this because my current backpack was too large for the size limitations for carry-on train travel. This was perfect, as long as you packed it properly, it was easy to put in the overhead compartments. I started out heavy (48 lbs) bringing food and drinks to save money. Even with all of this weight, after a few adjustments to the "fit-pro adjustment", it was a comfortable haul. Of course, it got lighter as the trip went along, and overall, I could not have been happier with this backpack, it kept everything I needed for over 5,000 miles of journey.

Good construction.
Good construction. Only used it a few times now. Had an average of 40-50lbs hiking 10+ miles a day. The internal frame has made this a comfortable backpack, with excellent support.

Poor design
Kelty Redwing 50 reviewAfter 25 years or so I decided it was time to replace my old trusty and much loved Kelty daypack. It has served me well but has seen better days. The bottom is starting to develop a few holes and the stitching for one of the shoulder straps is starting to unravel. Other than that the pack is still awesome. Very comfortable and never any issues with any of the zippers or straps. It was and still is a good every usable daypack. When I came across the adjustable torso length Kelty Redwing 50 I thought I could give my old trusty Kelty a rest. Being tall, 6’6”, the thought of being able to lower the pack so it would ride correctly on my hips sounded ideal. It would be if Kelty actually tested their adjustable torso length system. After loading the pack and trying different lengths it’s very clear that no one at Kelty could have. For short people the pack most likely is very comfortable with the torso length at the minimum setting. Padding for the back of the shoulders should be more that sufficient but for anyone that wants to adjust the torso length it lacks any padding. Velcro and hard plastic is not padding. Yes, design flaw, making the main selling points worthless. The consPoor design concept worthless adjustable torso length due to a total lack of padding if the torso length is increased (main reason for purchasing the pack was the adjustable torso length). Poor quality control, zipper stitching unevenly spaced for main compartment causing zipper to stick. Most likely will be a wear issue and shorten the useful life of the packKelty, I need your help. Please provide a padded insert so that the pack can be used as you designed it to be used. Kelty, you have a good design idea, but clearly you forgot to field test it. The padded insert could be Velcro backed so it sticks to the exposed Velcro of the shoulder strap torso length adjustment. I will gladly test any and all prototype padded inserts you make to resolve this shortcoming of what can be an awesome design. I will provide field tested feedback.Together we can make the Redwing 50 daypack true to the Kelty name
