Have enjoyed as part of my meditation time, reading straight through, referencing later, sharing passages with others.

I am so happy with this find and buy. Introduces new ideas about viewing Pacific Islanders and those who are considered minorities.

This book changed my life. The section titled “Remembering the Past” discusses the circular nature of time (past, present, and future). It illuminated so many of my own theories. the circular nature of the past

I really like this book. I visited Fiji to interview Hau'Ofa.

Wonderful.

We are the Ocean, is a mixture of scholarly work and fiction both dealing with the Pacific. It shows the progression of Hau'ofa's thoughts over multiple years. The collection is not only informative about the Pacific but overall very interesting to read. As a person who didn't know much of the Pacific, I came out with a much more informed stance. Hau'ofa has an interesting point of view as he is a native person, anthropologist, and fiction writer. The three of those parts of Hau'ofa's identity are ones that know too well about the ethnocentric view which the western world views the Pacific with, so Hau'ofa is capable of beating down false perceptions in multiple different ways The only reason that the book does not get five stars is that the scholarly sections of the book are occasionally a bit dense to get through.

This collection contains all the main articles and interviews published by this author during his lifetime in one volume, and will be of interest to everyone who knows his work and who shares his optimism and passion for the Pacific - which he prefered to call, in the spirit of pan-Pacific co-operation and inclusiveness, Oceania.

For anyone wanting an unvarnished, nuanced, yet broad analysis of the issues facing Oceania, look no further. A must read. Hua'Ofa's brilliant analysis illuminates and only inspires the reader to want more. A brilliant and engaging writer.
