...don’t forget to look for the little ‘ladybird in every scene’!~ LADYBIRD🐞~ MAGIC WINDOWS~ WEATHER~ 2021From the back cover:🌞 ‘WEATHER ☔Learn why puddles appear, what hides behind the clouds and how rainbows are made in this book of magic windows!Look for a ladybird in every scene!’THE MAGIC WINDOWS SERIES:~ Introduces the world~ Boosts motor skills~ Recommended for children aged 2+Illustrated by Libby Burns’Also currently available MY BODY ooOooThe durable board book measures around 16.75 cm square with rounded corners and opens to 5 thick double page spreads with a short sentence or two of clear text. The book uses only a handful of colours.Depending on age of the participant, the tabs (even with a relevant icon) are not that obvious blending in with the background (and there are no instructions physically on the book).Having said all of that, once pointed in the right direction, so to speak, that excitement is instantly there for the ‘magic’ change of window scene by gently pulling the tab, especially to see if that elusive little ladybird is hiding there (the ‘freeze’ page being a tad devious, IMO ~ image below refers)![13 images attached © Ladybird Books/2021]

Tabs and windows reveal changes in the weather
This board book from Ladybird is one of a series of non fiction discovery books for very young children. This one deals with weather, using sliding windows and tabs to reveal changes caused by wind, sun, rain, cold. The illustrations are cheerful and simple with basic text and plenty to talk about in the pictures. Nicely inclusive - featuring different ethnicities, child in a wheelchair etc in a very natural way.Our grand daughter (nearly 2) loved pulling the tabs and opening the windows, luckily it is sturdily made. But her VERY favourite thing was finding the ladybird on every page...sometimes you have to pull the tabs to reveal her. Our only minor quibble is that due to the restricted colour palette used in this book, the rainbow is red yellow pink and white: which even our little one knows is not correct!

Cute and colourful
I got this for my 2-year-old niece who really loved the bright colours and the interactivity in this book. It's very short, with each page dedicated to a different type of whether. You pull a tab to reveal a new picture on each page. The tabs are really sturdy, not like the tab books of my childhood that were flimsy and broken by other kids by the time you got to read them! The text is very short and doesn't rhyme, so pretty easy to read aloud.

So great - fun and educational
There is a real sweet spot in books for young children - their attention spans are so short that 'reading' in the traditional sense isn't really an option, yet it is so important to encourage them to enjoy books. Lift-the-flap and touchy feely books are a great option, because there is another form of interest to keep the little one turning the pages. This feels like a step on from that - the interest is in changing the weather by pulling the flap, but it is quite a bit harder to grip and pull the flap than it is to lift a flap. This book is also great because it will teach your little one about the weather, whilst being really fun.

Great book
I may be biased, as I have always been fascinated by weather, but this is a charming little book for those being introduced to books, using a topic they will be able to relate to. The pages are very thick, as are the moving parts - in this book, the movement is down or across rather than flaps to be turned over, and this enables the book to be fairly robust - this would last in a nursery environment. The language is simple, encouraging the potential for word recognition as well as the delight and discussion about the pictures and what is uncovered on each page.

Lovely, sturdy book
I love this book, it’s interactive, which makes it more fun for young children. You pull the tabs to change the pictures in the window. The tabs also have fun pictures on them, which are double sided and relate to the story on both sides of the page, so leave them open and turn the page to see the pictures. It’s a sturdy board book and will withstand a fair amount of pulling and dropping. The colours are bright and the narrative is easy to follow.A really great book and will be a firm favourite.Hope you found my review helpful
