Important and needful work on the theophanies of the Old Testament; God in the form of a man
"Who Ate Lunch with Abraham?" by Asher Intrater is a thought-provoking challenge to Jewish and Christian leaders to consider the various times God appears in human form in the Old Testament, and how this concept lines up with the necessity and ministry of Jesus (Yeshua) Christ as God's Son. For the Jewish (Non-Messianic) reader, this is a wonderful teaching about how Jesus Christ has always been the Angel, Messiah, Commander, and Friend of the Old Testament Patriarchs and the Israelite people. For Christians, I would argue that there is no better book ever written to help a person understand the concept of the Trinity, or the reality that we are created in the literal image of God.There is so much great information in here I would suggest that this is a necessary book for every Jewish, Messianic and Christian library -- and a must-read! Of course, hardcore orthodox and secular Jews (the kind who refuse to read scriptures like Isaiah 53) will hate this. As will "Oneness" Pentecostals, JWs and other fringe, anti-Trinitarian Christian or "Hebrew" groups. Because the arguments (Biblical facts, really) are compelling, powerful, and well-presented. The proof is in the Word of God and in the meaning of important Hebrew words that speak of the nature of God.Asher Intrater is the founder and apostolic leader of Revive Israel Ministries and oversees Messianic congregations in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. I had the pleasure of visiting his Tel Aviv congregation several years ago and hearing him preach. He's written several other books which I have reviewed in the past. His writing style is straight-forward. Although this is a theology book, it is not written in a dry academic fashion but feels more like the personal teaching of a Rabbi who clearly loves both his students and his Messiah. He does, however, dig deep into the Old Testament. If you are unfamiliar with the Bible stories he discusses here, you may miss some of the finer points that come across in this otherwise very readable and easy-to-understand book.Looking for a must-read book about God for a Bible-believing friend? I can think of no better one than this."Who ate Lunch with Abraham" is highly, highly RECOMMENDED!Bless you...

A wonderful Eye Opener
Wow........not even 5 chapters into this book and I'm floored enough to be able to recommend this. Well written and organized. Asher has an and extremely high understanding of The Hebrew language. He also has a great understanding of the "Going on's" within the Old testament. Though he is highly intelligent and educated he communicates with out the need to use 20 letter words from a vocabulary only understood by the upper crust of theologians. So it's a well informed and easy read and yet I have so much more to read too.Want to begin to understand who God is and the teachings of the triune nature of God? Start here.Want to understand how God literally and physically reveals himself throughout the Old testament and New? Start Here.....you'll be awe struck indeed. I also think you'd find a new appreciation for how the Lord constantly considers his children at all times. He even refuses to reveal his face (with the glory and power turned up to full) to anyone who is living. Why? Simply put we couldn't handle it and hence we would die before our time. Not His fault...not ours.....thats just how it is. But he was always careful to consider this when someone wanted to know him more and get closer to him (IE: Moses). Wonderful indeed.I don't think there is anyone who can critically hold a candle to this writing. I cannot find any points so far were my gut says "hey... something not right here". Though I'm certain that more than a few Rabbi's and Jewish scholars with a die hard Jewish dogmatic attitude would indeed attempt to shoot this book into pieces. I'm also certain that the same kind of dogmatic-ism is what hung our Lord from a tree.I have had questions answered so far that I didn't even know I had and yet they were there all the time. Wow....if you don't love Israel as a believer in Christ then you will after reading half this book. Though I myself was never anti semantic , but I've know a few folks who were if not for any reason but for the well known and stupid stereo types.I highly recommend this book indeed.Thank You Asher for all your efforts in putting this work together. I know getting paid for it is nothing when compared to seeing how the Lord affects our hearts and lives through it. And you can't note that accurately enough on any check as I'm sure you are well aware.Thank you*UPDATE SEPT 15th, 2012*Done. Even better once finished. Deeper in rich understanding. A burning resides (as did with the author) in my heart to get closer to him and know him more. Definitely will be reading this book again only more slowly with note pad and Bible next to me. I read this during free time on the go. Just imagine if I study right along with it.A simple must have on anyone's bookshelf.

Get this Book!
What a great book. We gentile Christians need to start availing ourselves of the teachings of Messianic Jews. Whereas we tend to only think about our personal salvation from sin, death and hell through the shed blood of Messiah Yeshua, there is simply so much more to it then that! There is a kingdom coming, and there are a lot of details in Scripture about it. If you have ever wondered what Jesus may have imparted to the disciples on the road to emmaus that day after His resurrection, well then, get and read this wonderful book by Asher Intrater. You will be so forever happy that you did. If, like me, you happen to be going through any kind of difficult trial that is all the more reason to read this book. It will put a song in your heart, a solid feeling under your feet, a sense f God's presence with you like never before, and a sure and certain hope for the future. I cannot stop singing the praises of these blessed, and very Biblical teachings.

Wonderful, satisfying, beautiful
There is too much to be written and not enough space. let's just say that this is exactly what I was looking for and I got it here.I only wish the book also explained who was the role of Mickael in all of this, because Adventists say that if that Person is not mentionned in the books of the New Covenent, it's because this Mickael was the same as Melkieseddek, King of Salem who Ate with Abraham, the Angel-Y who spoke to Moshe and I can't decide if that's true...

Just Amazing
I am reading it a second time and it explains so much of what the Lord has already shown me and just reaffirms the importance of understanding that The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are the active part in the whole of the Word of God. It has also taught me things that I had not seen before and it is exciting when the Holy Spirit reveals what God is wanting us to understand. I would like to send a second review later on as I am reading it more in a study mode now where the first reading was getting an understanding of what Asher has written and a better in-site to areas I had not looked at before.

I love it, and it may challenge your theology!
This is a brilliant book, written by one of my favourite authors. The incident referred to in the title is when Abraham had three unexpected visitors, all of whom appeared to be angels with the appearance of men. This is quite normal, but as you read on, you find that two of them head off to Sodom and Gomorrah, but the third remains with Abraham. As they are talking it seems that this is not just an angel, but God in a human form, since he speaks as if he is God. An interesting part of the conversation is when he says, "Shall we tell Abraham what we are planning to do?" Well, there's no one else there, so the conclusion is that he is talking to God. God talking to God! This may not suit your theology, but Asher's conclusion is that this is a manifestation of God in human appearance, but not the form of the man Jesus (Yeshua). I had always wondered about this story, and totally agree with Asher. The really good thing, though, is that he looks at a fair number of other occasions when this angel/man/God character appears. I was quite surprised at how many there were.Asher is a very logical thinker, and is also very articulate, and this is an easy read.
