Anrührend ehrlich und unendlich poetisch zugleich sind die Szenen des sexuellen Erwachens in YOU ARE NOT ALONE - und waren damit ein Wendepunkt in der Welt des Films über das Erwachsenwerden.In einem dänischen Internat der späten 70er Jahren kommen sich Bo und Kim nahe, zwei Jungs, deren Freundschaft sich zu einer kindlichen Liebesaffäre auswächst. Als einer ihrer Klassenkameraden wegen eines Streichs - er hat Sexbilder im Internat aufgehängt - der Schule verwiesen wird, zetteln die Schüler einen Streik gegen das Internat und seine autoritäre Lehrerschaft an.Allen Anfeindungen zum Trotz zeigten Bo und Kim aller Welt, was sie für einander empfinden.Dieser Film ist eine mutige, feinfühlige, empfindsame und völlig unprätentiöse Geschichte einer emotionalen und physischen Beziehung zwischen zwei Jungen. Lasse Nielsens Klassiker betrat 1978 Neuland in seiner Maßstäbe setzenden Sicht auf Unschuld, erste Liebe und jugendliche Rebellion.Bonusmaterial:Original Trailer; Export-Trailer; Alternativfassung des Films in 1,5:1; umfangreiche Bildergalerie; Programmtrailer; animierte interaktive Menüs;

Danish good times
I had read up on some positive reviews on this film having watched I understand why I had no idea how old this film was until I saw the year come up amazing to think the young actors are around my present age As for the film most enjoyable Okay there are some scenes where in this day and age where there will be shouts of child porn and obscene acts but back in the 70s political correctness was unheard of young lads discovering joys of sex and love through body contact and magazine porn at a boys boarding school One of the most hilarious scenes was when the school head ordered all porn pictures to be removed from the dormitories they did as they were told and placed on the walls of the shower room instead Now that's what you call wallpaper But all in all this was a film about the joys of youth what they could get away with or what they attempted to get away with not much has changed today well apart from political corectness

Captures and understands the intensity of youth.
Speaking with an English point of view, this film is very challenging, as it addresses a subject that we English, as a whole, are not very comfortable addressing: the enthusiastic sexuality of minors. This however, is a Danish film, and, typically of the Danish, it addresses sexuality in an open, broadminded, accepting fashion. Set in a Varnatt (a year-round secondary-aged boarding school for boys), the story is of the boys finding out who they are, and campaigning for the right to be who they are, and of the love between two boys, one of whom is the headmaster's son. The film is delicately, and caringly made, and the cinematography is lush and sedate, perfectly demonstrating Lasse Nielsen's love of natural beauty.

Authentic cinema
A note to anyone who buys this DVD: The definition of the english sub-titled film is markedly poorer than the definition of both the german and unsub-titled version. The plot threads meander all over the place but still it is a beautifully made film. The closing scene, that of an 8mm cine film shown at the end-of-term party, is wonderfully satisfying. Recommended.

I bought this film following several suggestions from a website I look at. Also, it is set at the time I was a young teen. It is a sensitively made film which certainly could not be made today. It is not a 'gay' film in the normal sense of the term, but one which could be more accurately said to be a coming of age film. Well worth seeing.

A great unique film
A somewhat unique film, so very '80s, but timeless. Watching with subtitles takes nothing away from the film. Personally i'm surprised it has a 12 rating, I would have thought 15 may be more suitable as there is some nudity and some difficult subjects a dealt with. An altogether excellent film, but one that probably wouldn't be made these days.

An interesting insight in 1970s attitudes, this film is very much out of date - which makes all its charm.

Wow, it's not blu-ray!
This is a very nostalgic film for me. So, although I've kept it's DVD, I bought new blu-ray by expecting high standard clear pictures. But the results was miserable and nothing but a deep disappointment. The quiality of pictures were awful in spite of blu-ray. The pictures are not smooth but a kind of aggregation of many dots like powders.
