The Black Market

I was not overwhelmed by the album on the first play through - Appeal To Reason blew me away on the first listen so I was hoping for the same thing. However by the 3rd go round I loved it. The Black Market is more heavily produced than Appeal To Reason which was already a little too 'clean' for my taste but it retains enough of the musicality (signature tempo changes and soaring hooks for example) that make Rise Against who they are, to appeal to me.If you thought Appeal To Reason was too main stream then this album is probably not for you but I urge you to persevere to a 2nd or 3rd play through if you, like me, absolutely loved Appeal To Reason. Even at it's lowest point this album is one of the best I've heard in years, it is worthy of your money if you like this sort of thing. However, it's probably not for those who long for the days of Revolutions Per Minute and Siren Song of the Counter Culture.

Let me say first off I have all their previous albums and have seen them in Europe and the US I really rated this band up until Endgame which was passable but overproduced and had all the rough edges sanded off in the studio.I have a cover of them doing a Journey track, and that is what they are beginning to sound like.They have gone from being one of the angriest yet most articulate punk bands ever to sounding like a slightly miffed 80's MOR band.I don't know what has happened to them because there's still plenty to be angry about.

Ok, so I'm biased here, Rise Against are my favourite band so of course I found this a brilliant album.This album isn't as diverse or as experimental as earlier albums but I think that's down to the band finding what they're best at than a lack of creativity.

Ganz ehrlich, ich musste das neue Album oftmals hören, bis ich mir nun eine Rezension erarbeiten konnte. Die Songs sind etwas anders gestrickt, als bei den gesamten Vorgängern. Ich selbst bin mit THE SUFFERER AND THE WITNESS zu Rise Against gekommen und habe sie lieben gelernt. Die alten Sachen sind klasse, aber auch die letzten Alben haben mir gefallen. Sie werden halt auch älter, die Musik entspannter und das hört man auch raus.... Ich finde es gut und gehe diesen Weg mit.Das neue Album musste ich oft hören, um die Stärken zu erkennen. Alles ist etwas poppiger, Ausnahmen bestätigen die Regel :-)Es ist eine Hymne nach der anderen zu hören. So will ich das haben, klasse!

Ancora mi stupisco come un bimbo (e all'anagrafe ho passato da un po' l'adolescenza) della possibilità di acquistare un vinile (o un cd) su Amazon (questo album l'ho addirittura prenotato prima dell'uscita ufficiale) ed avere praticamente subito i file mp3 per poter ascoltare immediatamente quanto comprato.A parte la mia meraviglia davanti alla tecnologia (d'altronde compro ancora vinili...un motivo ci sarà), ecco il nuovo album dei Rise Against, un tenebroso "mercato nero". Che siano stati sempre propensi alla "lotta" ecologica non si discute, e infatti ribadiscono il loro intimo Eco-terrorism proprio in una traccia. Lo stile cui ci hanno abituati è, più o meno, lo stesso, anche se un paio di canzoni suonano un po' troppo simili ai My Chemical Romance o ai 30 seconds to mars, (lo sto ascoltando a caldo), però io ai Rise Against perdono (quasi) tutto. Mi piace il loro approccio musicale (abbastanza duro, tipico dell'hardcore melodico), quel senso di tragedia imminente denunciata dalle "urla disperate" del loro cantante, Tim McIlrath, quasi a dare un senso al loro "simbolo" (un pugno chiuso con sullo sfondo un cuore), dei duri, senza compromessi, ma un cuore sullo sfondo (sempre presente).Un album che rimane nella traccia segnata dai loro due precedenti lavori: Appeal to Reason ed Endgame.piccola nota: avendo prenotato l'album, Amazon afferma che è garantito il prezzo minimo, ebbene l'ho prenotato a 19,99 euro, l'album costa di meno...e Amazon mi ha rimborsato la differenza (rimango senza parole, e piacevolmente stupito).

Die Meinung mancher Rezensenten, Rise Against seien dem Kommerz verfallen, kann ich so nicht teilen.Einige Ecken und Kanten sind abgeschliffen, aber "The Black Market" dröhnt immer noch extrem tight und druckvoll aus den Boxen. Rise Against klingen erwachsener, musikalisch vieleicht etwas weniger rebellisch, nicht ganz so stürmisch wie frühere Releases, aber nie beliebig. Die Tendenz zu eingängigen Melodien wurde konsequent weiter fortgesetzt- daher rührt vielleicht das gern bemühte Schlagwort "Mainstream". Wirklich gerecht wird das den Songs aber nicht. Tim setzt seine ausdrucksstarke Stimme variabler denn je ein, Mir gefällt das rein subjektiv wirklich gut, zumal die Texte es wie gewohnt in sich haben. Auch der Rest stimmt: Große Überraschungen bleiben aus, aber das Album verträgt mehrere Durchläufe, ohne langweilig zu werden.

Die letzten Rise Against-Alben haben mir allesamt sehr gut gefallen. Seit The Siren Song Of The Counter Culture verfolge ich die Alben der Band und höre sie intensiv durch. Zwar hatte jedes Album einen schwächeren Moment, alle fielen aber insgesamt sehr gut aus.Nun zu ihrer neuen Scheibe:Die Kompositionen sind typisch Rise Against: Gute Riffs, anspruchsvolle Rhythmik, gute Akzentuierungen, interessante Bassläufe, schön paltierte Tempiwechsel und starke Texte. Bezüglich Produktion ist die Band wieder einen Schritt weiter gegangen: Alles klingt typisch fett, die Röhre von Tim McLlath knallt gut durch. Deutlich gestiegen ist der Anteil an Synthieeffekten, vor allem in The Great Die-Off und I don't want to be here anymore - gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber gut.Insgesamt muss ich auch bei diesem Album sagen, dass es in der Mitte einen Durchhänger gibt, der mir auch stärker auffällt als z.B. bei Appeal To Reason. Aber ab Zero Visibility geht es wieder weiter wie ich es gerne hören mag.Resultat: Das Album wird zwar nicht mein Lieblingsalbum von Rise Against, trotzdem höre ich sie sehr gerne und bin immer wieder beeindruckt von den Fähigkeiten dieser Band.

Das nun mittlerweile siebte Studioalbum von Rise Against siedelt sich vom Stil her nahe an Endgame an. Die Songs sind nicht mehr ganz so "schmutzig" wie damals zu meinem Lieblingsalbum The Suffer & The Witness, dafür aber umso reifer und erwachsener geworden. Trotzdem bleibt RA dabei aber ihrer Linie bei und verändern ihren Stil nicht komplett, die Lyrics sind genauso genial wie immer geworden. Wem jetzt Endgame nicht so gefallen hat, der wird auch hier nicht sein Topalbum finden, alle anderen (mich eingeschlossen) finden wahrscheinlich wieder ein richtig gut gelungenes RA-Album.
