Improve your energy levels through dietary changes
In The Energy Paradox, Dr. Gundry attempts to explain the science behind the causes of chronic fatigue and malaise; and what can be done to reduce these factors and live a healthier, more energetic life. Even though the book's title and initial chapters focus on fatigue and energy; the dietary and exercise changes that Dr. Gundry suggests should have broad health benefits and potentially improve a number of other health issues, according to the data that he references.The first few chapters attempt to give a scientific background for the diet that Dr. Gundry recommends by focusing on inflammation, the microbiome, and the mitochondria. The next few chapters focus on time-restricted eating, and choosing foods that help restore optimal gut health. Dr. Gundry asserts that not only is your microbiome important for digestion, but your microbiome also affects hormone production, and even the expression of your DNA. He explains the function of mitochondria and cellular respiration, and what factors influence the production of ATP; the main source of energy for most cells. He then goes on to discuss what kinds of foods may increase inflammation, and disrupt both the microbiome and optimal mitochondrial function; and what you should eat instead.Dr. Gundry provides a Food List starting on page 194, so if you were less interested in the science behind his dietary suggestions and just wanted to know what to eat, you could start there. His Recipe List starts in Chapter 9, page 231; and Chapter 10 lists several supplements that he recommends.This book was easy to read and informative; with just enough medical science and background information to explain Dr. Gundry's dietary suggestions, without being too bogged down in complex molecular biology so as to be confusing to most readers. Dr. Gundry uses simple analogies and examples to explain these metabolic processes, and backs up his advice with recent scientific studies. Many of these topics have been quite thoroughly studied in recent years, and there didn't seem to be any recommendations that were very controversial. I enjoyed this book, and even though I was familiar with many of the concepts already, I appreciated the list of recipes and suggested dietary changes that I will try out myself. 4.5 / 5

Finally an explanation for fatigue
Thank goodness for Dr. Gundry. I just visited a doctor who ran nine blood tests and found nothing to explain my fatigue. All he offered was an anti depressant! I was discouraged and depressed to get no help with this problem and then Dr Gundry ‘s new book on energy arrived. He describes fatigue in all of its seriousness and explains the causes. I now understand what is going on and find the advice clear and do able. I finally know what to eat and what not to eat because he has a list of yes and no foods. Although I always eat well and exercise daily it’s been hard to keep up with the demands of my life. Now I am hopeful that I can stop the exhaustion and enjoy living again. I’ve just started the program so I will add an update in a few weeks. I highly recommend the book for anyone searching for answers about fatigue.

Get to the core of how the body produces energy, and what gets in the way
The book is light, personal and entertaining, which is good as it also gives a dose of heavy science. It is amazing what has been figured out in the last 15 years. And the diet has been a life saver for my wife. She had headaches for 50 years. They were gone after a month on the diet. Also for 30 years she slept about 4.5 hours a nite. Now it is 7. Our energy is clearer and more abundant. The diet is permanent for us. But beware, the diet does require a huge adjustment in what you eat, what you buy and how you cook. Worth it tho.

Highly recommend
I heard Dr. Gundry speak on a podcast, and was instantly interested in what he was speaking about. Lectins, mitochondrial rush hour... these were all new to me, which was a shock as a health care provider.I have not yet read his previous books, but there was a wealth of great tips and information in this book for regaining your health, returning to the energy levels of your youth, and decreasing whole body inflammation. And the best part, it was all cited by great-quality clinical research! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who feels tired, run down, and unwell.
