is there some type of senor that will set alarm off if car windows are broken

This unit is a motion sensor, it will trigger once an intruder is close to the vehicle without touching it. Typically an aftermarket alarm will have a shock sensor built in. Thank you.

Could I set the time? Such as if a presence enters the zone and remains for X amount of time then the alarm will trigger?

Short answer, no. But it has dual sensors. If the presence enters the outer field briefly your alarm will chirp. If it enters in and out the outer field 3 times in a short period, ~5 seconds, a full on alarm will sound even if nothing enters the inner field. Obviously, if something enters the inner field there's no warn away, it goes straight to full alarm. If your alarm has axillary inputs great, most have at least one for a full alarm. If not make sure you use diodes if you're having to tap into already In Use inputs, ie door trigger, hood/trunk trigger or you'll get false alarms. If I recall correctly the diodes go on the neg wire side. There's a bunch of diagrams when searching google images for that prox sensor. Hope that helps...

Can grand pa’ install it? Is it easy?

it takes a bit of knowledge to install so if grand pa is knowledgeable in 12 volt systems then possibly. otherwise have an installer install it.

Will this work with a viper 3100v or 3100lx? As ive seen some ppl,say it wont work with viper? Thks

It worked with my Python which I'm told by my installer that it's the same as the Viper. Same company. Both units are DEI's top of the line.

best upgrade for any alarm system

simply love this item.works with a generic alarm i got for next to nothing, and yes, i had to re-wire it a bit, but it works perfectly.i already had another similar one in my convertible, and it survived 8 years of wet, nasty northwest weather, and still functions perfectly, and this item is the same thing, just a different brand sticker..point is, that its fantastic, and i would buy another when i get another car, simply for the way it beeps when people stick their hands in the car, or when a cat gets on the roof... perfect, and i don't know why its not standard on all alarms, but for the price, i think everyone needs it.

It's okay

It may be just me, but I'm not too impressed with the motion sensor...It gets triggered when there is medium to heavy rain, I tried adjusting the sensitivity but it's already pretty low...when I set the sensitivity lower, I can put my hand about 2 feet into the truck before it warns me, then it will trigger the alarm. I can't seem to find a happy medium. I haven't tried to relocate the sensor yet but it is located in the middle of the cab like the instructions suggested.

Bought; Had Professionally Installed

Took it to Pacific Audio (5715 Lakewood Blvd.Lakewood, CA 90712) they installed with no problem. Had them also put on kind of a kill switch for me to turn it off & on.

Very disappointed!

This product is not as Advertised. When I received the product I took it to a technician and he informed me that I would have to purchase another Alarm because factory Alarms are not compatible so if you have a factory Alarm as most cars do the product cannot be used without purchasing a different Alarm. Very disappointed!

Fulfilled my expectations

Works great. Have no issues with it. Added to my car Excalibur alarm. I'm happy with it. I installed a switch so I use it only when I want.
