works great, drill holes in it to sink
works great, drill holes in it to sink, but also have rope to pull out of water for paddling. if it is down, you can paddle all you want, but wont go far. Or no holes and it floats, however will take practice with your dog to learn. all in all it was worth it

better than yanking in the dog over the side
Gets the dog back in, but doesn't not stay submerged. It floats back to the top of the water. And it's a pain to pull back in the boat because it's designed to fill with water to help keep it under the water, but doesn't work as intended. Still, better than yanking in the dog over the side.

Great in theory but poor in practicality
At first look this step looks like it would be great. The step makes using the front carry handle difficult at best. When lowered into water the step doesn't sink enough to brace against the hull and when the dog puts weight on it the step shifts/sinks causing the dog to feel unsure of footing. I tried modifying the step by drilling more holes to allow it to take on more water and it didn't work. If the dog tries to leave the boat from the front the have launch hard to avoid the step. If they don't it could be a hazard to themI gave up on using it and bring my dog into the boat via the side.Complete waste of money to buy this item.
