Highly technical
I was hoping for more on the actual attempts to use the V-3420 in various combat aircraft applications. The book is overflowing with technical data on the engine and its variations and, as such, is a bit of a slog for those of us who are not as deeply into "flange B connected to the ristan on the sumentate at point R".

You have to be an engine-nut
Which apparently, I am. This is a collection of engineering overview drawings. The writing is not much. And, sometimes interesting. It''s a good followup to the book " The Story of the Allison V-1710 Aircraft Engine. But, you need to read the other book first to appreciate this book.I also suggest the book "Allied Aircraft Piston Engines" should be read before this one. After these 3 books, you will realize the RR engine was not all that great. And, this engine had to meet much stricter requirements than the famous RR engine. After reading these books and a few others, you will soon realize the USG blamed the airplanes for their poor training and improper fuel allocation during WW2.
