Practical Golf Course Maintenance: The Magic of Greenkeeping

I purchased it for two reasons: To watch golf tournaments on television for my basic knowledge of grasses and their treatments. Realized from reading that fertilizing is a delicate guessing game; and the education required for spraying insecticides---didn't know one has to be licensed. All very interesting.

I purchased this book because I was offered a part-time job mowing the greens at a local golf course. I thought it would be an introduction to the world of golf course maintenance. It was that and more! I'm now making a career change and have been offered a full-time position in the field.This is an excellent book, particularly for golfers who want to know a bit more about how the courses they play are maintained. It is full of interesting facts about the courses we play, for example, a typical green is 5000 sq. feet etc...Whether you are thinking about working on a golf course or just play on one, "Practical Golf Course Maintenance" is an excellent purchase.

I keep this book at work so I can compare how others do some of the jobs we do on the course. It's also good for training new employees

This book helps to understand what it takes to have great golf course. I highly recommend reading this book to private club green committee members and golf club managers so they have better understanding what their superintendents do.

Provides a good overall picture of greenkeeping without going into great detail. I guess there is only so much you can put in a book.
