Review: Geology 101 in a nutshell - If I was taking a college “Geology 101” class this would be my cheat sheet. It covers the gamut: the original principles of geology laid out by Hutton and Lyell; basic Earth structure; a concise chemistry review; identifying minerals; silicate structures; formation of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks; Bowen’s reaction series; volcano structures; weathering; Werner’s idea of continental drift and supporting evidence; plate tectonics and boundary conditions; earthquakes; mountain building; mass wasting; hydrologic cycling; glacial erosion; wind erosion; waves and wave motion; geological time; methods of geological dating; fossils. It may say for dummies but it is a concise, easy-to-read-and-understand tutorial in one volume. This is actually my second one - I gave my first one to my daughter who teaches science in elementary school and I bought another one for myself. Highly recommend it as a basic intro to geology.

This book is a very nice overview and great for a curious adult who likes to learn more about the world. Leans a little too much on global warming alarmism; however, the rest is well balanced. Great summer read.
