Well worth it but read across the subject
I bought this book around the same time that I also bought Burton Malkiel's A Random Walk Down Wall Street and Tim Hale's Smarter Investing: Simpler Decisions for Better Results (both of which I would rate higher). Time Hale's book is essential from a UK perspective and worth buying before this one. However, The Intelligent Asset Allocator is complementary to these books and helps your understanding of the whole allocation topic. I would recommend this book but, as i say, read a couple of the other books as well.

Nothing new here.
I enjoyed reading this book, but while the core message is as relevant as ever, the references are (as others have said) dated. I also didn't really gain anything from it that I didn't already know. It's is an extremely lazy 2017 update of a 2001 book. An example of this is that less than a page is given to ETFs which are described as a "new development". I'm not opposed to older books with insightful information as I regard "A Random Walk Down Wall Street" as a classic, but this one doesn't match up.

A Fine Book
I wish I had read this advice 50 years ago! Good basic stuff, but some of the info is biased towards the USA.

Published in 2017 but written in 2000!
I'd second the most recent review, this book was written pre the dot.com crash let alone the GFC.However it does contain a great deal of investing truths and as such is a valuable read, just don't think (as I erroneously did) that because it has an Aug 2017 publication date that it is up to date.Indeed the author comments in his latest publication "Rational Expectations: Asset Allocation for Investing Adults" that the range of investible assets which are useful to retail investors has changed beyond recognition.

Well out of date.
The paperback copy of this book is a reprint of the original 2000 hardback with a new preface. The stats and references are thus about 18 years out of date! The book is very good but readers who have the hardback version have no need to buy this paperback.
